Digging an old one up here just because I’m pumped about this new acquisition. Nothing vintage or classic, I know, but I’m loving it! I’m coming back to guitar after about 15 years and I’d only really

That looks gorgeous! I know I don't own this guitar and I can't imagine too many people in the world actually do but just to show it off for fun. This is the 2002 PRS Dragon. It's chock full of pearl

Don't really play a guitar, but I did make a cigar box guitar and cigar box amp, think it turned out ok for my first attempt. 2 pickups with 3 way toggle switch with volume and tone pots and preamp.

Do it!

You traded in a Tonare Grand??? Why?? Must have been one hell of a Martin.

I've had a flick on one of those and I'd give my left nut for one.

I'd give BOTH of my nuts for an Angelus

I felt the Tonare was to big and cumbersome, the electronics didn't work well either. The Martin will be something special. It's being built right now.

Nice git-fiddles fellas.

I play at Taylor 814! Rosewood back and sides.

I also have a custom made Strat, Ash body Seymour Duncan Pearly Gate Special in bridge position and Texas Specials in Middle and Neck. Was a college graduation gift from my parents. I teach beginning guitar and Music is one of the therapies i incorporate into my life as well as a good meal, cigar, beverage and front porch time with friends.

I have a 1976 Takamine 12 string. Guild copy. Copy plays and sounds better than the original. Also have a White Washburn EA-40, Schecter C-6 hellraiser, 1980 LP custom, and a '88 strat.

I'm wanting a Taylor, and a PRS....

It's great to see this thread still kicking along and people still adding pics.

I haven't played guitar in a while. I've been held captive by grand theft auto for a while now.

Tried to play some acoustic the other day and it sounded just awfull. Really need to brush up on the skills again

It's amazing how quickly the chops go isn't it?

It's a constant battle trying to find enough time to keep it going.

I used to be a drummer but now my son carries on the legacy. Here are some pictures of his equipment. He's studying jazz drums at school but he's a guitarist/vox in his own band.

Schecter Syn Gates Custom, Gibson Firebird, Ibanez semi acoustic Art 95, Les Paul Studio, Yamaha acoustic and his first guitar, an epiphone Les Paul copy (not a great guitar but in the pic for sentimental value peace.gif )

These are the newest additions. A fat tele (single coil and humbucker, not the California series), a 1974 Fender super reverb amp, Ibanez acoustic.

A sonor ProLite drum kit in walnut. I used to be a drummer and have been around musical equipment all my life. This kit is the sweetest I've ever heard.

Great thread! Love seeing all these awesome guitars. I've owned quite a few guitars over the years but am down to four now. A Gibson "The SG" from around 1977, which was the first guitar I ever bought. I also have a Fender Strat (in black) that is probably an early '90s model, but the innards are messed up and it needs repair. I got it for $25 from a friend back in the late '90s. I also have a Yamaha acoustic that is over 30 years old. It was the first (and only) acoustic guitar I've ever owned. My main guitar now is a PRS Custom 22 that I purchased in 1995. Here's a pic:

I'm also looking to buy a new acoustic. Anybody have any recommendations for something in the $500-$700 range?

Hey mate,

Not sure where you are but in US dollars:

The two major acoustic guitar companies right now are Taylor and Martin and they sound very different. It really depends on if you like the "Martin tone range" or lean towards the "Taylor tone range" depending in your playing style.

If you are looking for something brand new Breedlove is making a great model now called the atlas. Solid top and veneer back and sides. I played one and thought there was a lot of value for the price.

There is also the Taylor 100 series and Martin X series.

But if you are willing to look at used guitars I think there are much better options. You can find solid wood top, back and sides models, which sound so much better. I've recently seen a Taylor 500 series in the $700 range which would be a great value, they are much more expensive new. The tone qualities are much higher than veneer guitars.

My suggestion is to get to one of the big stores and play as many as you can and find out what you like for sound and go from there. See what body style is comfortable, dreadnought vs concert size. Tone is so personal, but a big difference is finding a solid wood model and I believe you can do that in your price range.

Best of luck! Happy to help with any questions you have.

Yes, US dollars. Thanks for the tips! Once I get my tax refund later this year I plan to start shopping.
