So. RyJ RR, aged from 2008 leaves. Or....2008 regular production RyJ Churhchills? sneaky.gif

If you strip away the fancy box,the extra band and the extra $$$'s price what's the difference, essentially?? Not asking that facetiously,it's a genuine question.

Definitely a genuine question. And the same can be said for the CGR, MGR and the older PSD4 and Monte 4 Reservas. I've had the pleasure of smoking the CGR, MGR and Monte 4 R. IMO only the Monte 4 was a way better smoke than any regular production M4 I've ever had and I've had some great ones. The MGR was very enjoyable but I find most M2's to be disappointing. The CGR was stellar on the first half but went sour on the second. Not sure why. I didn't smoke it in the most ideal conditions TBH. I really do like the look of this release though. The question of course is how well do they smoke.

Buying a cigar rolled in 2003, 2004, 2005 etc is much different than buying a cigar made with tobacco from the 200X harvest that was held back for it's quality and aged etc vs. being rolled. Also, Siglo VI's etc rolled in 2003 may have tobacco from the 2000, 2001 or 2002 harvest. It's kind of like buying Champagne. When you buy NV (non-vintage) Champagne you may be getting a great wine, but it's made up of multiple undisclosed vintages. When you buy vintage Champagne, or even better vintage single vineyard, you know exactly when those grapes were harvested etc. The same goes for the Reserva and Grand Reserva programs. You know the tobacco in those cigars was from the X years harvest and that it was fermented for X time and aged for X years before being rolled. You also expect the tobacco quality to be superior as well, just like the grapes picked for the Champagne Houses' vintage program.

It then comes down to value. Some people think spending $120-$250 for a bottle of vintage Champagne is worth it because they enjoy a superior product. Others feel NV Champagne is excellent as well and there is no need to pay 3-5 times as much for a similar product. We are having the same discussion here about the Reserva programs vs just buying regular production during those years. Some think it's worth the money and some don't. Some can tell the difference and some can't. It's a person to person value and enjoyment proposition.

agreed with Orion on this one, in additon to his info i recently watched a video review of the monte 2 gran reserva by Aj patel and he said the blends were different from the norm and being the "best" tobacco from 2008 would mean it would have a upper hand on the reg production even if the blends were the same

I have had no notification of release dates or availability for the Asia Pacific region.

From a personal point of view, it comes down to smoking a few to determine how good they are or otherwise.

Had a text 2 nights ago from mate Tony who accompanied an R&J Escudos from 2007 with a Zacapa rum. A "Zen Moment" a "100" as he put it.

I think all LE/Gran Reserva should aim to achieve a "zen moment". If they can achieve that or get close then price/packaging excesses becomes a secondary consideration.

I also agree with Frank in that the Monte 4 Gran Reserva is the best Monte 4 I have ever had. magnificent. The Cohiba Gran Reserva was also consistently brilliant.

You of course mean the Monte 4 Reserva, not "grand" prez. How about the PSD4 Reserva? Or the MSGR? Not all these rare, expensive reservas or GR series live up to hype.

Agreed mate.

There have been some dogs indeed. Also some stellar successes. It really is about judging them individually. pan them when needed, give kudos to them when deserved.
