mychetboy Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I am thinking of buying a box of Cohiba Robusto or RASS in the upcoming months...are there any recent thoughts on how the Cohiba Robusto has been lately, meaning box codes in 2012. I have had neither cigar, so I cant tell which way I am going to go..I like a med/full cigar that is smooth but is not overwhelming from body perspective. Suggestions are welcomed! Happy Christmas and New Year
nikesupremedunk Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Cant tell you about Coros but I got my first box of RASS from 12 and they've been great. For a box of CoRos you can pick up 2 boxes of RASS. I would pick up one of each and smoke the RASS while you age the CoRo's.
SurpriseMVP Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 If you plan to smoke them fresh then go with RASS. If you plan on 3 or more years storage then CoRo is the way to go
Lotusguy Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 CoRos need more age, IMO. For smoking fresh, I would recommend the RASS (especially in a 50 cab).
CaptainQuintero Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Honestly grab a couple of singles first, both in my opinion are pretty bad fresh. Both are completely different cigars with 4+ years on them. Remember your taste buds are completely different to everyone elses!
LLC Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I have boxes from 2011 from both of these and the CORO's are for me quite a bit better IMO.
maverickdrinker Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 What kind of flavours do you enjoy? Are you looking to age or smoke fresh?
dangolf18 Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 It's a waste (at least imo) to smoke a CoRo with less than 4-5 years of age. The RASS are good to go with 1-2 years of age. I recently bought a 50 cab of RASS from Sep '11 and they are very good. Can't comment on recent CoRo.
backslide Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 3-5 years for both to be smokeable imho. I'd go with the RASS just due to the cost.
mychetboy Posted December 23, 2012 Author Posted December 23, 2012 Thanks for all the feedback. Here are some more details that might be helpful. I am still new to the Cuban cigar scene. While I have smoked a few, it was not until recently that I wanted to pursue it further. I never had a great experience with cuban cigars until I smoked a Partagas Lusitania with 5 years of proper aging..it blew me away. I bought a 300 count humidor just to store and age cigars. Here is my current inventory: 10 - Partagas D serie 4 10 - H Upmann Mag 50 25 - H Upmann #2 25 - Cohiba Siglo II 6 - Partagas Lusitania 5 - Monte Cristo 2 2 - Hoyo Epicure Especiale So far my favorites in order Pargagas Lusit, Hoyo Epicure then Monte 2. All will be aged for at least another 3 years except fro the Partagas Lustansia, since it has 5 years on it already and is smoking great! I like a medium, toasty and lightly spicy cigar as my favorite profile. Too strong of a cigar with bitterness and ligners in my mouth for hours afterwards is not my thing. Money is not the issue with my purchase decision for the Cohiba Robusto vs RASS. My only concern with either one is that I think they are suppose to be pretty strong, so anything more than either a Monte 2 or Partagas Lusit, might not be for me anyways, ruling either or both out. Hope this helps!
ZinZan Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I echo captain Quintero suggestions, try a cpl singles. Both are completely different animal and as everybody mentioned rass is good fairly young and coro needs a lot of time. But cohibas are cohibas that's the reason it's nearly double the price, sometimes when the stars are aligned you get a switched "on" Cohiba nothing comes close. Both are my fav robustos. maverickdrinker Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 sounds like you are off to a good start. Get samples of both to determine if you like them first. Will make your future box purchases much more easier...

Especially if you're on a Havana trip with us , and you're already stocked up, and you then see a vintage box of Super Seleccions.....
