Hazza
The wife and I have started dipping our toes into the world of wine in the past few months. I wanted a nice wine rack to display them but this proved frustrating. A lot of the racks for sale were extremely plain and the ones which were nice were ridiculously expensive. I really liked the look of the riddling wine racks made from old farm fencing. Thought they were striking and had heaps of character, but there's no way I could justify paying that much. One day at work, there was a load of waste timber from some crates headed for the bin. I saw a few pieces and thought, maybe I could turn these into something I like. Turns out it was fairly simple. I began by measuring out and drilling the holes for the neck of the bottles. Then added some stain and the transformation was pretty instant From there, I attached a frame to the wall so there was something for the top of the bottles to lean against, couldn't risk any falling bottles. This part was a little tricky and I had to take my time with the measurements and make sure the levels were all good. And voila, the first test run worked a treat. We then finished it of by getting some old railway nails from a friend. He cut off the head of the nail and welded a small nail on the bottom so they could be hammered into the racks. The end result was very satisfying. These were going to be tucked away somewhere, but we were so pleased with the outcome we hung them on the wall in our living area. It cost us very little and now we have wine racks which are one of a kind with, I think, a lot of character
