Hey

I'm not new here, but I'm still a newbie.

Every once in a while I make enough money to be able to afford a box or two of cubans. Lately it's been a real long while. I'm looking for advice so I get most bang for buck.

Size, not thin and short, otherwise doesn't matter that much. Nicotine - light, strong, doesn't matter that much.

The important part: flavor profile toasty, from caramel to coffee, and spicy, all the way to pepper is fine.

I'm looking for the strongest flavor, because I suspect I'm equipped with less buds than average.

Any suggestions?

Agree with the Bolivar and Partagas suggestions (go with the 898v - you will not be disappointed!)

Other than that, perhaps Monte 2? The last one I had was full of coffee and cream and was quite full flavoured. A great cigar.

Interesting you say you want strongest flavor because you have less taste buds. Do these two have any connection to each other?

I would also go with either Boli or Party as well for full bodied smokes.

Well, this is what I read: there's super-tasters, normal tasters and sub-tasters, all depending on how many taste buds crowd your tongue. The super-tasters often live a tough life of being extremely picky which foods they're simply unable to stomach, as they are hyper-sensitive, especially to bitter flavors. They can taste bitterness in foods that I can't. Now me, I'll eat anything, unless it has no taste, I hate that. I want salt, MSG, habaneros, lemon juice, vinegar, sugar... And I think that's due to having less buds.

Just wondering -how long did it take you to count your taste buds?

And before you answer, a Parti D4 came to mind first, to chime in on your question, but the other suggestions are good also.

I simply compare myself to my wife and my sons, it fits with what I've read. I think at least one of my sons is a super-taster, inherited from my wife, who can't stand cilantro, lemongrass, aniseed, and many many other spices and flavors. Any kind of sour taste, even a simple Margarita, and even a little salt is too much for her.

Maybe my tasting is average not sub. All I know is, I can't taste much of anything in cigars except that nicotine taste, and ashes, (and maybe sometimes a tiny bit of chocolate or pepper), though I been smoking for a few years now. The first one or two puffs are always wonderful, can't describe it, doesn't taste like anything else, then usually it quickly settles down to being less flavorful. shrug

Emailing Rob would probably be best as he can tell you what is toeing the line at the moment. From what you've been saying I'd grab a 5 of each of these:

H Upmann Mag 46

Bolivar Royal Corona

Bolivar Belicosos Finos

Diplomatico #2

Montecristo Petit Edmundo

Partagas P2

Partagas 898 varnished

Romeo y Julieta Cazadores

SLR Serie A

Personally I've found all of these to have BIG flavours in their own right that will hit you right away and can't be confused with any other cigar.

I have been really enjoying a R& J Cazadores lately. This stick will rock your world if it has a couple of years on it.

+1 on this list. Read some reviews of these and pick from there.
