I definitely see the point of trying to evaluate a cigar FIRST based on how much you like it, THEN on price. When I smoke an expensive cigar, I try not to think about price and just enjoy it for what it is. I say try, but it's hard. In the back of my mind there is always, "you have XX more of these, are they worth what you paid to you?"

There are plenty of cigars I really like that I won't buy again. Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it, but then I have to factor in price, and that's what determine's whether I can buy more (like El Pres' book example). Inconsistency has to be factored in as well, especially when speaking of Habanos. I understand that errors happen with all hand-made products, but I have zero patience for an expensive cigar that fails the performance test (really tight draw, etc.). My one and only Cohiba Esplendidos is still sitting in my humi because after I cut it, it was like sucking hard ice cream through a straw.

I LOVE the Trinidad Robusto T, but had still only purchased one 12-count because they are (for me) expensive. But when they were discontinued (yet another factor!), I decided it was worth it to acquire more.

I vote we ban retailers from posting!!!! -LOL

We always have a good exchange my friend. I would not have it any other way.

And folks that goes for the rest of you. For me, this is about what I like and what I think. It is not to criticize another. Post what you like and what you think and we can debate it. If my boorish tone implies an insult please be assured it was not intentional. That is what the forum is about as far as I am concerned.

Take a look at Robs other friends, we are belligerent bunch! Who just wants to read about unicorns and rainbows??? -LOL A little humor helps, too.

Cheers, my friends! -Pigster

Amen my friend lol3.gif

I love a great exchange of ideas. I am never one to believe I am always right.....that is because I have been proved wrong too many times rotfl.gif

What I will never adhere to is the demonising of anothers beliefs. I may disagree, however that is the "steak" in any discussion/debate. Respect is the "secret sauce" that makes it great.

I asked my close friend who has been smoking and collecting Cuban cigars for 30 odd years about this topic today. Since he barely uses a computer I will tell you what he said...

*Besides the lancero I have no love for Cohiba. Next question (laughs)*

I am a bit more broadminded than your friend and that is pretty rare for me... but we definitely are students of the same school. Sounds like I need him on my team as a member here!!! You need to get him a computer!

I have a way with words, don't I? -LOL

On a different note I was wondering. Are the threads worse (and this should be a poll) if Kommie and I agree or disagree? Any answer is acceptable in 1000 words or more.

"Piggy, you shouldn't post," is only 4 words and is therefore not acceptable!

Huh?

I smoke what I like and smoke as much as I care to and can afford. If I could afford more I think I would buy/smoke more of what I like instead of simply more expensive cigars.

I don't think most cohibas I've had are as consistently good as five or six other marcas i smoke so therefore i smoke very few cohibas.

If i can pick up a box of CoRo for the same price as a box of RASS or Epi 2's or Choix Sup's, 9/10 times I go for the others. Note that not many times are the prices the same.

With any product the law of diminishing returns kicks in and kicks in Hard, no $40 product in any area I can think of is ten times as good as a $4 product, wine.....

Try a bottle of two buck chuck or white zin, and then a top Burgundy, Barolo, etc, and maybe, just maybe you'll find at least one instance smile.png

But slightly more to the point, one of my go to wines is a wine I buy for $10-$12 - it's a very well made wine, price helps, but I simply enjoy it.

One of the best wines I've had over this past year cost around $45 - extremely enjoyable. Is it 4x better than the $10 bottle - I've never really

given it much thought.

I've never considered that it would need to be 4x better, or that I could buy four bottles of the $10 wine instead for me to be able to enjoy it.

I enjoy the unique qualities of each, and could not imagine drinking just one or the other. I drink many wines priced in between the above

(and a few higher lookaround.gif ) and feel the same way about those.

Looking back to the original post, the text reads, "forgetting pricing issues...".

And when I hear anyone talking about pricing on cigars here, especially when we hit the $200+ button on a LFTH every two weeks, I suggest that that cherry has been popped.

Stay smokey my friends.

True but as several mentioned here it is very tough if not impossible to separate price completely from the discussion. Also, most are ringing the $200 button as you say, not the $400 button so in the end it's still a value discussion.

OK, then let's try this. In my collection, which I am sure is Dinky compared to the many Hot Wheels here, I have a range of cigars for different days, nights, occasions, moods etc.

A couple of years ago it was pure crap compared to now. Last year it was OK. Today I like to think it is fabulous. Next year? Who knows. About 15-20% of the collection are out there, $30+ sticks that Matthew and I will smoke on special occasions or when we decide, hey WTH? Go for it. In particular right now I have 8 India RE Punch Plantinos. I keep saying I will save them for years but jeez I keep sneaking one in to my smoking line up.

Funny thing, the same applies to his wine collection and my Single Malt collection.

Cohiba (which I love because they don't have to be so rare to be great) or other special rarities, it really does not matter... the stars of your collection is what make this hobby interesting.
