So, last night I placed an order for 10 Cohiba Maduro 5 Secretos and 10 Hoyo de Monterrey Short Hoyo Piramides LE's, as well as a half a box of Bolivar Petite Coronas. Right now my humidor is in terrible shape, and I am having a difficult time keeping the RH above the low 60s. While browsing the internet for a humidor that would be better suited for me to place these delicious cigars in, I found someone selling a Daniel Marshall 100ct Cocobolo Rosewood Humidor for $120. I arranged for pickup tonight. The only defect is that the lock on the front of the case has been broken and is no longer attached, although it still seals airtight. The MSRP on these humidors is between $600-700 USD, so I am thinking about trying to sell it.

I suppose I am just asking for some general feedback. Do you think I should sell it or keep it as a new home for these new smokes I'm getting? What would an appropriate asking price be? And also, where would be a good place for me to try to sell it, eBay? This guy said he has had it on craigslist forever and I was the first person to ever inquire about it, so I am wondering the demand that there really is out there for these things. Also, why is the MSRP so damn high on any Daniel Marshall humidor, is it just because of the exotic wood that is used in their production or are these really truly exceptional humidors?

*Back when the "Cigar Boom" was in full effect (mid 1990's) I used to dream of owning a Daniel Marshall. They were spoken of as being specially made for the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, politicians, and other notable celebrities. Their humidors were routinely $1,000 and up. One day I got the idea to call the company and ask if they might have a "scratch-n-dent" sale! Lo and Behold...! I talked to some very kind manager at their headquarters. I was able to obtain a 150ct. humidor for $450 - and man, that was a BARGAIN! Because usually that one sold for $1100+! And I don't see a THING of any scratch or dent! He also included a 25ct. selection of their Daniel Marshall cigars - Churchill size. It was the happiest purchase I made...despite my roommate yelling from the other room, "That $450 would have fed a family for a MONTH!!!" So yes, if you have a Daniel Marshall for that $120 price and it's in reasonably good shape, I would NEVER get rid of it. My lengthy 2cents

A daniel marshall for that amount is almost too low. I would get a look at it before i make a decision.

I have tbought about getting a DM humidor myself. I have seen one in person and for me they are joint with elie bleu as the best desktop humidors out there. However, when i discovered i could buy a small aristocrat cabinet with more storage for the same money i went with the aristocrat.

But if everythings legit i say you jump on that humidor. Im sure there would be somebody out there could fix the lock on it too.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I have a DM I use, I've thought about selling it since I have an aristocrat but sometimes I just like to keep loose sticks in there. Ultimately, it's just a desktop which is not that useful if you are a collector. Would rather have a davidoff price aside I just think they are far more tastefully done.

Beautiful Daniel Marshall Humidor available for sale.

I received this humidor as a gift from a friend. I used it for awhile, but now I no longer smoke cigars! It's a beautiful piece, but unfortunately it is just gathering dust on my mantle.

Specs: 17 1/2" x 103/4" x 4". Nice deep set with extra shelf and two dividers. Comes equipped with hygrometer and humidifier you can douse with water. I believe the wood is Cocobolo Rosewood (don't quote me on that), and it has two handles--one on either side for easy moving.

Condition: In good condition. Slight scuffs on the inside with small wear evident. It is missing the lock on the outside, but I still have the two screws it came with to set the lock in place if you wanted to add that piece.

Daniel Marshall pieces go for a lot of money. I am not looking to making a killing on this humidor, I really just want to get a decent price out of it and hope that someone can put it to good use.

Price is 150$ or best reasonable offer. Contact me via e-mail and I will respond promptly. Thanks!! "

I tried to get it for $100, but we settled at $120. I am a bit nervous because the price is so low. If it is genuine and it is in working order than I will be extremely happy though. How can I test its authenticity? A friend of mine told me that if I place a square of paper towel in each corner and close the lid, when I re open it they should all be stuck into the corners from the compression, and no longer loose. Also, do people counterfeit humidors?? Is it possible that it is not genuine? Here is a picture of the DM badge:

My first humidor wad a DM private stock ( fancy term for dent and scratch. Once received, I couldn't find any defects. It was flawless amd beautiful. I quickly outgrew it and have since gone bigger. But I still love my DM.

I swapped out the sponge humidifier for some 60 RH beads. I now place my ready to smoke sticks in the DM. I find that 58 - 60 RH is perfect for me. My other humidors for aging and resting use 65 beads. This setup works great for me.

I would jump on the DM. Resell it if you can, but I wouldn't worry about it. It will treat you well for years to come. I plan on giving my DM to my son in 20 yrs or so.

Cheers and enjoy!

Close the lid on a small piece of printer paper. If it gives resistance, or tears, then you have a good seal. If it slides out easily - bad seal.

For what it's worth.....the hinges look the same as the one I have....shipped straight from DMs facilities. The rest of the pics look authentic to me.

I just got home with my new baby. This thing is even prettier in real life than the photos. Much to my fiances disappointment there is no way I'm selling this beauty. On a sad note though, until I get my 2.5 boxes that are en route I have nothing to put in it. :/

Did she fund the purchase?

Negative, but my initial plan was to sell it. Since then I fell in love so I had to break the news that the plan had changed lol

You could compare her favorite purse or shoe purchase that means tons to her and that she knows you don't comprehend the importance of, but that is a worthy buy to her! And say, "Well, the Daniel Marshall is the Coach, Fendi, etc. of cigar related investments/material! Maybe she'll be able to relate that way :ok:

Yikes! The hygrometer has been reading RH of 81... I tried leaving the humidor open overnight, but the RH where I live is around 80% so it didn't really have much of an effect. I have one small jar of RH70 beads that I am keeping in it, and I just got a larger 70RH jar of beads today. I am going to place the new one in when I get home, should I remove the humidifier that is in now? Or should I leave that in as well? I am nervous because I just got my (half) box of Boli PCs today and I have no other humidor to put them into. I gave my old one away to my father when I got the DM :( I also got a digital hygrometer in the post today so I will use that to confirm that there is really an issue, after all the analog hygro that came with it may just not be calibrated or reading accurately. Hopefully I will be able to regulate the RH down to AT LEAST <75 by tonight so I can sleep at ease with these new Bolis in proper storage.

I also have a box of Cohiba Secretos and a box of Hoyo Pirmades expected to be here soon so in the interim any advice on how to fix ASAP this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
