FDA banned from forcing cigarette horror pics

The federal government cannot force tobacco companies to put large graphic images and anti-smoking warnings on their cigarette packages, a federal judge ruled Wednesday.

“Although an interest in informing or educating the public about the dangers of smoking might be compelling, an interest in simply advocating that the public not purchase a legal product is not,” wrote U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon in the District of Columbia.

Five tobacco companies, including R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., sued to block the Food and Drug Administration rule, arguing that it forced them to serve as an “unwilling mouthpiece” for the government’s anti-smoking messages.

Let's hope this holds up under the scrutiny of those that are pushing hard for stronger regulation on the tobacco industry. Makes you wonder about the thought process these people exhibit, I can imagine it now. "Let's see. If a label spelling out the risk of tobacco use isn't strong enough to make people change their minds let's just stick some disgusting pictures on the package...that'll do the trick.". Maybe next they'll put a little shock device or explosive tobacco in each package.

I am waiting to see the photos on condom packages warning about the horrors of, you know...

... yeah, and bicycles, skateboards, sun-tan lotion!!!!

This is not about safety folks. This Alinsky tactic is used to depress an industry for a nationalist assault and taxation. It is about money and control and that is all there is to it!
