gersonmorelli Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 This afternoon I went to a reputable local tobacco shop here in Sao Paulo and saw about 30 singles of the Cohiba Piramide Extra being sold. They looked legit but decided not to get one at roughly US$45 a stick. Are these coming out already?
CaptainQuintero Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 As far as I know nope, checked Trevor's website and there isn't even a temporary space in the Cohiba section yet so I'm assuming the store either has festival cigars (with the medio tempo) which should be a hell of a lot more than $45, or they have some genuine banana leaf puros!

Tks CQ. I also checked Trevor's website and in the 2012 Release status section says they should be released in August. And I also considered the possibility of them being from the festival, but as I mentioned there were about 30 cigars. What are the odds of this shop bringing that many singles from such a limited availability cigar from the festival 5 months ago? Anyhow, I'll see if I can go back and take a few pictures. The bands sure looked well done! Oh and BTW, they didn't have the box. About 25 of them were tied in a yellow ribbon and 5 loose in a drawer to be sold.
CaptainQuintero Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Release status section says they should be released in August. August 2013 most likely!! Apparently the rollers at El Laguito had to go get trained up on how to roll piramides by the Upmann gang With the fuss about the regular production not having the medio tempo leaf that the festival blend had and the above on the job training I'm expecting the first ever Cohiba launch styled after Cuaba construction 101!
maverickdrinker Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 They are rolled. There are no boxes for them....
Nino Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 They are rolled. There are no boxes for them.... Can confirm that, Art. The escaparate is full of cigars waiting for boxes that are not coming. Smoked a Pir. Extra last Sunday and it was as good as in Cuba.
Croz71 Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Please excuse my noob question are these going to regular production or are they only a EL release?

cigarros Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 I've tried one on last FdH this spring. Very good and tasty.

ramon_cojones Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Am I the only one who doesn't care about this cigar? It's not an iconic vitola, in fact it's something the factory has never rolled before am I understanding this correctly? What about the past pyramids were they not rolled at EL? It's another monster gauge cigar, will it be much different than a sig vi? I just can't wrap my head around the anxiety behind this cigar being released unless the cc market keeps aping the nc market with the bigger is better mantra (and trend) and people are all for this which seems to be the case despite the moaning and groaning of a select few.
CaptainQuintero Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Cheer up Ramon, you have the Monte Sir Dongalot EL coming out this year! Only 6.1" x 55 Personally I'm actually looking forward to the petit robusto set: Upmann, Cohiba, RYJ, Partagas and Monte. That's at least interesting
ramon_cojones Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 LOL!! Nice, hadn't heard about that set though sounds cool (except the r&j and monte lol). Link?

ramon_cojones Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Ah thanks, gotta love Trev's site. I was hoping for some pics on hsa site or something since I'm too lazy to search lol.
CaptainQuintero Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 I'd guess Rob will be getting them as he has the Epi travel humi at the moment, interested to see a cohiba PR, not so much the price though

I'm really not that all excited about this launch. Just curious. Who knows, maybe they'll do it right this time... (e.g. Cohiba 1966 imo)

Nope. I haven't bought any EL's, or ring gauges larger than 50, since 2002. I've only bought a couple RE's... only Ramon Allones (again, no large ring gauges). I had a box of original release Siglo VI's... but won't be buying anything larger than a robusto anytime soon. I have a decent amount of cigars to last me a while. Being unemployed also puts a damper on buying
mk05 Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 ...Cohiba Piramide Extra...Are these coming out already? When the planets align and the Mayan calendar ends. That is when it will be released.

El Presidente Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I haven't seen them on any shipping manifests as yet. They should take the pressure off themselves and announce at the festival cigars to be released in 24 months
