ChanceSchmerr Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Hey everyone! Going a little crazy as heavy-duty wedding stuff ramps up. The latest headache - the groomsmen gifts. I have 8 Groomsmen.....which is kind of stupid for what is now a 100 person wedding. Nonetheless - I have been racking my brains coming up with a suitable Groomsmen gift! My first Idea was a really nice Cigar, coupled with individually labelled 200 ml bottles of a single cask Scotch that you can fill-your own from at the Whisky Exchange in London. I tried this divine Benriach 1990 last time I was there...absolutely stellar! Unfortunately, I called up and apparently that cask has long since run out . Apparently others found it special as well. They have plenty of Glendullan.....which is a Dull as it gets . So now I'm back to square one. I have gotten them each a Cigar I felt worthy of such an occasion - an SLR Double Corona from our host Rob. But now - what else do I get to accompany it? I thought of one of those combination flask/cigar tube dealies....but Stainless steel, won't it feel cheap? They don't make Leather Cigar Tubes with a flask within. I don't know.....does anyone have any ideas? Time is running short - wedding in 16 days now! help!!!!
maverickdrinker Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Get a metal cigar Tubo with their initials engraved on it.
Munts Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 8 groomsmen is insane..... lol.. I got my groomsmen a nice pocket watch which was engraved on the back.
Fuzz Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Check out thefind.com They've got some flask / cigar tube combos with leather cases.
Azksig Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 I did nice lighters with their names engraved on it. They all seemed to like it. They'll like anything you do for them so don't sweat it too much.
Fuzz Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 For something close to home, you can try www.thingsengraved.ca
brazoseagle Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 There are several different styles of leather cigar holders/flasks out there. I don't know if these sites have them, but check these out for some ideas. www.thingsremembered.com and www.personalizationmall.com. I gave a real nice silver Smith & Wesson Pocket knife with some special blades in it, with their initials on it. Here are some ideas of some of the cooler gifts I have gotten after being in numerous, numerous weddings. A nice whiskey decanter with initials already filled with good whiskey. A very nice Baylor umbrella (The college I went to) the Groom got everyone an umbrella from their perspective college. A nice large beer mug (tankard) with my initials on it. Beer of the month club membership. Bacon of the month club membership!!!! www.zingermans.com A good bottle of wine with a customized wine label. A good bottle of whiskey with a customized bottle label. Monogrammed branding iron for steaks or grilling.
ChanceSchmerr Posted July 20, 2012 Author Posted July 20, 2012 Thanks for the ideas fellas. I like the idea of a metal cigar tube/flask combo, I'm just worried it will look cheap, even with an engraving. I like all those ideas, David - The monogrammed branding Iron sounds really cool! I'd get the customized label of Whisky if I could get the whisky I want....without costing a fortune here too.....
mk05 Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 something your friends will use everyday and hopefully think of the awesome day which was your wedding. I was the co-wedding planner / best man / the bridesmaid / the ring bearer for both. and all i got out of it was a brother in law. lol he has to deal with me everyday so i guess we're even.
CanuckSARTech Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Chris, whatever you decide to get me, I'm sure it'll be fine. In all seriousness, though, do you have a set budget or anything with this? Do you specifically want to stay with the whisky/cigar, flask/tube concept?
cachiocca Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Always thought a quality pocket knife made a nice gift. Received a Leatherman from a buddy for serving as Best Man.
Lotusguy Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Maybe I am just out of touch but I have never even heard of groomsmen gifts. I certainly didn't have any on either of my two weddings
PigFish Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 First, congratulations Chris. God bless you and your bride on your special day. Now that I have got that outta' the way... A filled flask for pictures made light by the time you walk down the aisle, makes saying "I do," one hellofalot easier!!! -LOL Cheers. -Ray
Tino Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 You could try these people for whisky and other spirits: http://www.demijohn.co.uk/browse.php?category=Whiskies&keyword=Whisky They do some interesting stacking bottles etc.
Scdalak Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 I like some of the Cuban Marca's Ashtrays, you can pick them up pretty cheap on the internet and they look nice.. I have several "Monte" R&J" Chohiba" they come in nice boxes, are pretty classy looking and wont set you back much.. Good Luck..
Scdalak Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Maybe I am just out of touch but I have never even heard of groomsmen gifts. I certainly didn't have any on either of my two weddings Basically its just a thank you for the inconvience and costs of being associated with a Bachelor Party and Wedding.. Did you have 2 bachelor parties Claus?
capnshazam Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Hey congrats on the wedding. Don't feel too bad about the wedding party, my wife had 9 bridesmaids and I had 8 groomsmen and it was a 100 person wedding too. I have all of my groomsmen beer mugs with their initials and the date of the wedding engraved. My brothers were both my best men and I gave them actual beer steins with the same engraving
Lotusguy Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Basically its just a thank you for the inconvience and costs of being associated with a Bachelor Party and Wedding.. Did you have 2 bachelor parties Claus? I don't need that kind of excuse to get drunk and go to the "ballet" No, seriously, I had only one the first time and my groomsmen were my friends from Germany where we don't do the gift thing (at least AFAIK).
CanuckSARTech Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 I don't need that kind of excuse to get drunk and go to the "ballet" Nope! That's what we have herfs for!!!!
Vinnyc Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 There is apace in Kingston upon Thames in the bottom floor of the Bental centre where you can pick out the bottle have your message written on it and have it filled with different spirits This is a link to them http://www.vomfassuk.com/

Vinnyc Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 They seem to have a sister company in the USA they may ship to you http://www.vomfassusa.com/
UpInSmoak Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 I gave my grooms men monogrammed, leather money clip, wallet sort of thing. It's a money clip that holds about 5 or so credit/ I'd cards. I bought myself one as well. I still use it to this day. Looks like this. http://www.google.com/search?q=leather+money+clip+wallet+and+credit+card+holder&hl=en&client=safari&tbo=d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=thcLUOzWBIPg2gXjmLgO&ved=0CDIQ_AUoAQ&biw=768&bih=928#biv=i|2;d|Y7VXHF37uK_Q_M:
UpInSmoak Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Also, I let them wear whatever suit they wanted, i only asked that it was grey or black. I purchased them all very nice identical ties to wear for the ceremony. Obviously the tie was theirs to keep after the wedding.
