Hey Guys,

Since the Euro is starting today, I figured i'd start a thread were we can put all our comments and thoughts on the Euro instead of having different threads left and right!

For me the Big day is monday, England V France. Given the recent rash of injuries to the english squad, If we can get a draw vs France that would be a more than acceptable result imo.

As for the Italians and the match fixing scandals thats giving them a pretty hard time for the Italians, who knows whats in the air in their camp right now.

Personally, I think the germans are favorites to win this comp given their exellent and balanced squad. I dont think spain will do much, the loss of Puyol and David Villa will hurt them alot. Factor in the fatigue from the 08 euro capaign, 2010 world cup, and the domestic/euro campaings of real madrid and barca, I dont think they have much left in the Tank.

My dark horse in this tourny is France. They are going into this as underdogs, but they have a good young squad and Laurent Blanc has worked wonders with this team. Had the English had a full and healthy squad, they could have been a good dark horse pick as well

Enjoy the tourney, it will be a fantastic 3 weeks

The Spanish and Dutch will be the teams to beat I think.

The injuries are good for the English team, all that is happened is the old past its or never had its are out. The only important injury is Wilshire but he's been out for a year already.

France haven't been beaten for two years so should be a favourite.

Spain can bore any team on the planet to death with non-stop 5 yard passing so they have to be up there too.

Netherlands have a strong squad and lots of in form players.

Germany have a great team, and the Germans always do well in Poland :covermouth:

The biggest thing so far in the tourny is the racism and anti-semitic abuse question. The Dutch have already had monkey noises chanted at their black players during training. Giving the tournament to Poland/Ukraine was a massive mistake as the problem has been rife there for years, it's not popped up overnight. All that I can hope for is strong referees who will stop games. but with Pratini already saying any black player who walks off the pitch because of racist abuse will be booked, who can say what will happen.

Germany for the trophy for me.

If I were to put money on, I think I would go for France.

It's tough to see England getting beyond the quarters...the only thing in their favour is a new, fresh crop of players.

Holland and Germany will be strong betting teams, but I can't see them or Spain doing it.

I'd stick me tenner on France.

Cracker of a first game, Greece missed an opportunity to grab the win damn it. The referree was just atrocious, hope the standard lifts during the tournament. Its 4am here and should go to bed but Russia - Czech Republic about to start hmm.....

Quote of the game:

"This official has given out 19 red cards in his last 16 games. How was he selected for this stage...?"

The red cards were a joke. Sometimes I think these referees are worse than the cry baby faker players!

Russia are looking very tidy! Making the Czechs look like amateurs.

France for me are a good team but still haven't dealt with the loss of the golden generation, they have the talent to go far but need to come out of mourning to shine, just a question of when.

Interesting game to watch. Agreed on the red cards. Great stop by the in coming netminder!

Should be a great tournament and I look forward to catching whatever games I get a chance to watch. I always love these events and I'd like to see the Spaniards keeps their streak alive with another crown, but it'll be tough going because of the other Nations that have been mentioned.

Although my heart says... GO ON IRELAND!!! :buddies:

France havent been beaten in 25 games, the squad they are playing with now is a far cry from 2010 world cup squad, also the germans are looking like a fantastic side. I also think the dutch will do alot of damage and fancy the portugeuse as outsiders.

England... Not a chance

Ireland... No effin way

I've drawn the short straw in our office sweep stake as I have the Rep of Ireland as my team. Whilst there can be surprises - e.g. Greece won in 2000 if my memory serves me correct, I very much doubt Ireland will do much at all.

Incidentally the prizes are £25 (1st), £5 (2nd), £2 (lowest point scoring team). It cost me £2 to enter so at least I stand a chance of getting my £2 back!

My tip is Germany. Always great performers in major tournaments and a nation smarting from European Cup defeat and being tapped up to bankroll the rest of Europe. Quite like to see them win in fact.

England are putting out one of the worst sides I've ever seen. Getting to the knockout stages would be bordering on an over-achievement. Carol is not an international class player. Almost every English team I have seen in my life is significantly better than this one. If they do will, this will be the mediocre underdog factor like when Wimbledon beat Liverpool in the 1988 FA Cup Final. Not excited at all.

The Dutch are one of the better sides I'd like to do well but not sure they will have the necessary focus required as history suggests they have a propensity to fall out with each other and also they may be affected by all of the racists which UEFA / FIFA disgracefully try to sweep under the carpet.
