Well, I was scanning through Outside magazine and saw a quick write up on state fair food: http://www.outsideonline.com/adventure-travel/north-america/united-states/Eat-Right.html

Which one wins? Whichever wins by this weekend, I will eat for my carb day. LOL

1. Hot Beef Sundae

Iowa State Fair, Des Moines (August 9–19)

THE FIXINS: One scoop of instant mashed potatoes, four ounces shredded beef, and Sysco’s Premium #10 gravy, topped with cheese and a grape tomato.

EASE YOUR GUILT: You get a whopping 11 grams of protein. Plus there’s the tomato.

2. Funnel Cake

North Carolina State Fair (May 18–20)

THE FIXINS: A batter of sugar, eggs, and milk drizzled onto a greased griddle and topped with powdered sugar.

EASE YOUR GUILT: Just think of it as a pancake.

3. Cheese on a Stick

Minnesota State Fair, St. Paul (August 23–September 3)

THE FIXINS: Three-quarter-inch American-cheese block, dipped in cornmeal batter, deep-fried in vegetable oil, and smothered with ketchup and mustard.

EASE YOUR GUILT:Minnesota State Fair regulations require the oil to be trans-fat-free, so your chance of heart attack is reduced.

4. Deep-Fried Twinkie

Indiana State Fair, Indianapolis (August 3–19)

THE FIXINS: A frozen Twinkie dipped in a batter of flour, yeast, salt, sugar, and vanilla extract, fried in oil until golden brown and flaky. Topped with fruit compote, sugar, and cinnamon.

EASE YOUR GUILT: Minus the toppings, it has fewer calories than a half-gallon of lemonade.

5. Bananarito

Texas State Fair, Dallas (September 28–October 21)

THE FIXINS: One banana wrapped in a flour tortilla and quick-fried in canola oil, then smothered with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, cinnamon, honey, vanilla extract, peaches, strawberries, and hot caramel apples.

EASE YOUR GUILT: There’s fruit involved.

It was three or five for me. Stay away from four. Totally gross, IMHO. Tastes like deep fried plastic.

For fair food, I think its hard to beat the deep fried pickles, gyro on a stick, deep fried cheeseburger or the deep fried snicker. If your State Fair has the "Gizmo," get one! You'll thank me later.

Okay... that looks freakin' awesome. I'm a man who loves his cream puffs. And Wisconsin ain't all that far away from North Dakota. :)

I've always enjoyed funnel cakes, so they get my vote.

That said the other items listed sound good too :hungry:

Haha.. yeah they make them even bigger than that too lol. They make them as big as the plate itself. Luckily I only go once every 3-5 years lol. Takes that long to recover! :pooped:

Deep fried Twinkie for me please! Here at the Canadian National Exhibition the latest monster is a huge burger with 2 Krispy Kreme donuts for the bun.

Being back home up north....I noticed the Scottish delicacy of a Deep Fried Mars Bar on sale.

Bloody Hell, if you have one, take a stent with you, or book your bypass before you do.

I'll have the Bananarito please.

We take our state fair food here in Minnesota very seriously! Cheese on a stick is mild compared to what they come up with. Last year we had mocha on a stick. Whatever you can imagine they find a way to fry it and put it on a stick!

My vote would have to go to the deep-friend Twinkie...
