Cohiba Stevie Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 So i was off work today, because i used to be a floorlayer my whole day was spent doing my friend a favour and laying a wooden floor in his hallway. So to say thankyou he took me for a few pints at a local bar, after a nice fried cod and about 7 pints of guiness we call it a night and i call a taxi to take me home... So i jump into the taxi and the driver has a cohiba siglo ii in his mouth! Some people will know that the siglo ii is hands down my favourite cigar of all time and i could spot one from a mile off, i could even identify one blindly from just a few puffs. The thing is it was unlit, and the butt was soaked through with saliva and all chewed up. I asked the driver why he wasnt smoking it... He referenced the fact that because the taxi was effectivley his place of work it is illegal to smoke in it, not that i would have minded, but what stumped me was he told me he still liked to puff on an unlit habano and stated that he still gets plenty of flavours and enjoyment from an unlit stick, he told me he obviously lights his cigars at all other times. Now i agree there can be alot of identifiable flavours from an unlit cigar but i wouldnt dream of sucking on one for the sake of it... What are your thoughts?
mazolaman Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 I know a few folk who chew a cigar....I suppose a bit like chewing tobacco.
canadianbeaver Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 My Uncle Sam walked around with a Cuban cigar, unlit, in his mouth all the time. After his first heart attack, he was not allowed to smoke any more. The habit was so important, so comforting to him, that he would not give up the behavior and taste of it. Same thing with my friend Lou Eisen, who is a stand up comedian here in Toronto. Had to give it up after a heart attack in his early forties, but on stage during his performance, he still sucks on an unlit Monte or Cohiba.
LeafLover Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 I had 93 year old Italian gent for a client who chewed on unlit cigar everytime i saw him. He said he smoked cigars all his life but because of his health, his doctor said he could no longer smoke cigars. He told me that he was a reasonable man....so he compromised.
Ghabanos Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Didn't George burns keep an unlit cigar in his mouth all the time?
DrunkenMonkey Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Didn't George burns keep an unlit cigar in his mouth all the time? I think that was a lit cigar.
PigFish Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 I find chewing on an unlit cigar distasteful. I find working in an environment where ones behavior is limited as a means of being employed by another is a part of life. I find that the powers of governments all over the globe are excessive and individuals are no longer sovereign. Every action of our lives is controlled by some mastermind in a statist capital somewhere. I find that, a sad situation indeed!!! Finding myself in this situations, I would say: Lets break the law together, I won't tell if you don't, and light up a couple of cigars with the man driving. -Piggy
