hainsworth Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Hey everyone. Since I've started smoking cigars a couple of months ago, I have been sourcing them from a Tobacco Station in Hobart, Tasmania, but they aren't all exactly in tip top condition (and I've recently found out that they put tap water in their humidor instead of distilled ). So I am now wanting to find somewhere that has a better selection, but the Tobacco Station in Hobart is the only place I've come across that stocks Cuban cigars (or any decent cigars, for that matter). I'm not quite in the position to buy cigars online just yet (no humidor yet, so i'm only buying singles at the minute + time constraints), so does anyone know of anywhere else i can buy Cuban cigars in Hobart? Cheers Hamish
Wil Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I would still buy them from the Czar/FOH. They ship really quickly and if you buy a few tubes and keep them in a sealed tupperware container they'll probably still be in better condition than anything you'll get at tobacco station.
chr0nic Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Welcome, mate. Ordered a heap from FoH lately... singles, boxes etc. Rob puts together a cracker of a sampler- it's a real good way to see what you like. He's cool if you want to order 1 \ 5 \ 10 sticks- you don't HAVE to order a whole box. Just more cost effective with shipping the more you get. Most aficionados will attest that even without a humidor you can get 2 - 4 weeks in an air tight zip lock bag.
Fuzz AI Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Samplers are a great way to try as many cigars as possible before building your collection. Smithy really likes making sampler packs, so just ask him to put together a "1 of every cigar in stock" sampler. A few days later ask for another 1 of everything sampler, as you really need to smoke 2 before you make up your mind...
hainsworth Posted May 24, 2012 Author Posted May 24, 2012 Cheers ryanbesso I'll drop him a pm. I'll have to try that, then I won't have to worry about them drying out. Ahh... Good idea, they'll never suspect a thing! . Cheers Fuzz, that's a good idea, especially since i'm a novice, but hopefully not for too much longer!
investandprosper Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 If you enjoy cigars, they'll find out eventually. They'll probably respect you for it if you tell them up front. A couple cigars a week has less adverse health effects than a soda or two every day.
Miner Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I'm also new to this. I started with a couple of smokes from the local shop then I phoned Rob (El Prez), had a nice chat, told him roughly what I liked. He then sent me a sampler of 11 assorted cigars, all amazing. I suggest you give Rob a call. Cheers
isa Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 You can get a monte sampler i suppose straightway - just refer to the pinned section - drop an email to Di. Of course, u can contact Rob also. Why not get a small humidor (sorry dont mean to push u, but cant resist)? If u r enjoying cigars, then its worth it. I got myself a 50 count humidor to begin with and now ...
rcarlson Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Your first purchase should be a humidor. It's so essential there's no reason to delay.
Ophidion Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 First purchase should be an insulated cooler so if you end up not really liking cigars, you have a cooler left over. Also, they are much easier to regulate humidity/temp in and you can hold 300 cigars in one that costs about 30 dollars US. My aging cooler doesn't even have beads in it because the cigars regulate humidity fine enough on their own (aka it doesn't change at all). I had a 75ct gifted to me when I first started smoking and i outgrew it in a few weeks.
jacktarnold Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Either way you go whether it be, a cooler or traditional humidor if you enjoy cigars you will quickly out grow only buying one or two to smoke when you are in the mood.
