cigarsnlife Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Partagas serie P No.2 july / August 2010 Over the years Monday night has developed in to quite the ritual for me, which involves: 1. A Cuban Cigar 2. Alcohol ( tonight is a D’arenburg Dead arm Shiraz from Mclaren Vale, Sth Australia) 3. The greatest advertisement for drinking and smoking ever made …… the TV series Mad Men! Any Half experienced cigar smoker will understand “the ritual” …… Cutter, lighter, ashtray all placed ready for use. Cigar selected, waiting patiently in the recess of the ashtray. Drink poured & bottle placed ready for a refill (usually arms length away) and you settle back in to your most comfortable chair. With everything in place I hit play and let the opening credits roll. Snip the end of the P.2 and taste the pre light draw, it feels a little tight ( from experience I know it wont smoke that way) but has that classic Cuban pepper with just enough grass and coffee to remind me why this cigar is always in the humidor! The show, ever as complex as a great cigar is laying the seeds of 3 story lines that will ensure the last episodes will keep you on the edge of your seat, whilst the P2 delivers a dense smoke full of its own 3 stories! cream, leather and a sweet toast flavor that pops up just towards the end of the first 3rd! Into the 2nd third the cigar gains some strength and gives a smooth espresso hit mixed with the toast right on cue! Don ever the gentleman, has whisked an (upset) beautiful young lady away from the office to go drive a new Jaguar ( purely for business research ) and a long whisky fueled lunch. The writers of Mad men have mastered the art of subtle suspense, the show always has you asking the question….. Don’s life is perfect but when ( not if ) will he hit that famous self destruct button and blow it all up for a 3rd time. Lucky for me I do not have this worry as the partagas is doing its job! Smooth and creamy with espresso lasting into the final 3rd has me as relaxed as a workaholic can get. I start to get a return of the pepper and grass but the cigar still maintains its smooth smoke! My mind has drifted from the show and all I can think about is, not wanting this cigar to finish! It smokes outstandingly down to the nub and I realize that the show has finished but I have no idea what happen in the final 10 mins. For a cigar you have smoked many time before to grab your attention like this it says a lot! I rewind the show and watch out the end, savouring the after taste of the paratgas and the contented mood it has placed me in! Medium to full / 92-93 We all know the feeling, post ritual cigar finished ……. Man Time complete! And ready for the week. This was my first ever attempt at a review! So I hope at least you were slightly entertained!

jedipastor Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Nice review, man! The last 2010 PSP2 I had was good, definitely smokable, but not quite "there" yet compared to the 2008s I've had. Tons of potential, though, and I'm glad I have a box!
