rcarlson Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Just finished a San Cristobel La Punta (torpedoes. Since it was a gift, I don't know the year box code. But looking around it seems a most affordable smoke (approx. USD $200 -- 25 box). It was delicious and well constructed. Although somewhat tight (but not too much so), it burned faster than I usually like (40-5o mins. relaxed effort). Wrapper was smooth, no veins, oily and attractive. Rich tobacco with some leather and very light earth. Medium strength throughout. Picked up some steam after the half-way point with that unmistakable Cuban twang. I didn't get any of the "cream" or "vanilla" frequently used to describe the stick in many of the reviews. It was my first one though. Not a bad little after-dinner smoke. I was surprised since I hadn't heard much chatter on this oft-overlooked brand. Peace Out!
cottierm Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I need to try this one. Like very much the recently discontinued Mercaderes. Best, Michel
rickengman Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I like the La Punta, not as much as the El Principe or the Oficos but the're always a solid Smoke.
mazolaman Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 La Puntas are great! They have a warm, rich, spiciness not found much elsewhere. Not really a cheap and cheerful though....

Hoshneer Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 I have heard good things. I definitely want to try these. Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
kuzi16 Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 i had one the other day with about 7 years on it and it was nothing sort of amazing. it renewed my love of this smoke and i may just have to get more.
CanuckSARTech Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 C&C? Nope. But SCDLH is a generally flavourful and nice lineup.
LGC Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Have some great 2001 and 2003 specimens. Call me a cheap a$$, but I don't consider these a budget smoke. Then again, I don't buy $30 cigars in 10 ct boxes for my regular smokes.
Rays98GoVols Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 I've smoked the Mercaderes, but not the La Punta. Always wanted to try one. Thanks for the review...
garbandz Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Have some '09 and some '03,both are extraordinary. The size is perfect, starts bold and slowly diminishes towards the end.Velvet smoke and perfect balance, deep flavors but smooth, smooth, smooth.
mrsgucia Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Smoked these few years ago and they were very enjoyable. Since then I moved on to cigars that offer more flavour.
