Ahight people, thought I'd dust off this ole thread. Yep it's been a few years since my last post (or visit). So many things have changed, and thankfully a few things have stayed the same. 24:24's WTH? That's new! ? Looks, like we're on about th 3rd or 4th forum revision now, so proud of what Rob and Team have built. Looks like Diane is the new Lisa too! ?

So so give it to me straight! What's new in the long and skinny world? Piggy will likely get ticked at me fer directing attention toward his secret stash. Apologies again Piggy! ?

Had an awesome PLMC tonight from 08.. Strong little bastard though, I had to punch him I'm the face 3-4 times to get him to settle down. Nice smoke deep into the final third. Love that marca.

Nowadays, anything longer than 4" and under 50rg is considered a long and skinny... at least according to HSA! :P

@Fuzz Funny, been like that for a long time. I call the large ring gauge sticks "Phat and Phallic's" (all in good fun of course). :-) I'm just not one that likes something so big in my mouth that I cant talk. (yeah there's an intentional joke in there somewhere LOL). To each his own, conversely I'm sure there are many that like that feel of the big-boys in their hands. That's one thing I love about Cigars, there's something for everyone. Nothin wrong with that at all...

@Bster Nice! I have 06's and 08's.  I get more cream from the 06's and more leather and grit from the 08's with an incredibly sweet smoke finish. I'm one that won't finish a cigar I dont enjoy. (My Dad on the other hand would smoke a wad of dried field grass down to the nub) I'm pretty sensitive to the acrid / formaldehyde (tastes like the smell of) flavors that develop in a young cigar that show up typically early in the second third. and when that happens, I'm out. The 08 yesterday was kind all the way down in the last 3rd which is a treat. I call those sticks winners for sure.

Upmann Lonsdales... Yum! Gonna' smoke one today, just to be sure that I still like'em. You know when they contract and the bands get loose, they are just getting ready to smoke!!!

@PigFish you rascal! that's what you always do.. whip out those sticks that no-one can get, because they're gone, because no one but you had the vision to stock pile them! :D I bet your humidor is the size of a shipping container right about now!

I too had a good time going back and reading my posts, funny how much history a person creates that is forgotten. Seemed like a relevant thread to revive. I saw one of my posts last night as I was talking about @laficion. I sure enjoyed chatting with him and he taught me a thing or two about coffee. It's because of him I'm roasting my own coffee today. It's because if you my heart skipped a beat when I saw that PLMC's were back again. Have any idea how they're smoking? (if they are smoking well, tell me via PM and say they are absolutely terrible publicly so we dont create another run on the bank ;)) FoH sure is a fantastic community, that piece hasn't changed at all. Hat's off all the way 'round.

Where'd we leave off? (rapid fire) No idea, I think perhaps bellyaching about the lack of those amazing Deliciosos style marca's!  Missing me some 8-9-8v right now too.. I'm 100% out. Love that stick when it's on, it's hard to beat.

BTW, how are the Monte Purito's? Whats your top 3 go-to (in what a man can actually get now) for that short smoke? Always liked Siglo 1's but often felt like they fall short of some of the less popular brands for the $.

Good to hear back from you! Almost 5000 posts Sir! That's amazing!

I am really the wrong guy to ask about what is smoking well today. I am back to buying cigars in 2015, but the cigars that I am getting are all on the 'come.' This is because I won't be smoking any of them, for what I would estimate as 3 to 5 years from now. I don't need to.

What is smoking well, well, I would say '01 and '02 QdO Coronas. I am enjoying a plethora of PCs and sub-PCs from '98 to '06.

Now Rob has been touting the du Prince and he puts them on sale here now and again. I never really like the du Prince, but have to admit that I have bought some 'on the come' due to what the membership has been saying about them.

I have always like the RASCC, and my friend Nik (member here) has been telling me that the current production of these, along with the Monte 5 have been very good. I like both cigars so that is a no brainer! Nik and I enjoy similar tastes, so I trust him if he says I will like them.

What I am doing is planning on adding 500 to 1000 cigars, all PCs or shorter to my stash this year. I am never in a hurry to buy anything so I wait for a sale, like Rob's 24/24...

From what I am seeing, the worst thing today appears to be undefiled cigars. I recently posted a thread on quality that voices some of my concerns. But when you can buy some nice PCs for 105 to 115 a box, it appears to be worth the risk to pick up some various boxes.

Again, this is a better question for those that buy and smoke, or buy, rest shortly and smoke if you trust their input. One cigar that I have not hit it off with is the Upmann Half Coronas. BUT, that could be luck, or misfortune of the draw. I smoked one form '13 yesterday, and was unimpressed. I can't say that I have been impressed by any that I have smoked.

I hope that helps you out, but don't just depend on me, ask the population for better data. A lot of these guys are buying and smoking current stock. They will know more than I do.

Cheers mate, and welcome back. -Ray

I'm pretty sure @El Presidente noticed the long and skinny thread and dropped those LGC Medaille d'Or #4's out there just to see if I'd bite. ...and yes, I'll put my money where my mouth is -  Problem is, my Humidor is quite crowded, it's going to be a kung-fu match just getting those rascals in. I think I'm gonna have to get a bigger one. :D Better not tell the wife!

Great thread!

@Ethernut, what are your favorite long and skinnies?

I have been stocking up a lot on PLMCs. I also buy a lot of PCs but really enjoy sub 40rg cigars but the choice is very limited. Would love to see more produced.

@Phillys Hmm that's a great question. In no particular order, just about any Panatela or Deliciosos vitola's, PLMC (a go-to stick for me), Partegas 898v, Partagas Connie #3, and Cohiba Lancero's are some that come to mind. Haven't tried the PL Panatelas, must do at some point along with the Quintero's/Gonzolez.

I'm a huge fan of sub 42 ring gauge cigars and of course like Double Coronas quite well also.

Stock. Up. on PLMC I just haven't had many bad ones. No, sometimes they dont have the complexity that other smokes do but sometimes you dont want complexity ya just want fun. It's easier to have fun at a few bucks per stick. :D

There's hardly any choices left at all...

Cohiba Lancero (for those looking for a bargain :D )

Cohiba CE (for those seeking a bargain smoke, shorter than the Lancero :D )

Monte Especial

Monte Especial #2

LGC med d'Or #4 (as long as you're not seeking the sweetness and complexity of the "original" blend).

For 42rg, stick to PCs and TPCs... excluding bargain blends at lower price points.

@RijkdeGooier BOOM! Nice varietals there! Any great stories to go along with them? Funny I wrap my unlabeled sticks like that too. You must have been buying from Czar back when they "declawed" them before shipping ;-)

Long and skinnies or as I like to call them "Will I have to walk back inside to get another cigar because this one is plugged." cigars.
