jman Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I recently smoked the choix supreme and was pleased with the cigar. The box was from april 2010. This stick had a great draw and a nice even draw. I got some citrus notes and black pepper. I enjoyed the cigar and think it makes a good everyday cigar. Habanos mutilocal brands are exellent...hidden gems, just hope they don't do away with them. What do guys think of the smaller marcas habanos offers?
IcedCanuck Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I smoked my first Choix Supreme last weekend and I was not at all impressed. Actually it was terrible and I ended up pitching about 2/3 of the way through it. I'm not sure if it was a dud but based on that one stick I would not pick up another.
isa Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Havent had the choix supreme but have tried both the ERDM demitasse & the SCDLH El Principe - like them both , quite consistent performers.Very good quick smokes, IMO.
Styler Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 From my experiences with ERDM they really seem to favour smaller RG sticks like the Demi Tasse or the Grandes de Espana. I've never had a CS that delivered in flavour, the Coronas are a better smoke IMO.
beamer Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 The two Choix Supremes I've had have been disappointing. Slightly bitter, burn issues. They were young though.
ramon_cojones Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Nothing new here, solid change of pace stick though not life altering. I enjoyed an 08 last week that I would put at a 93, it was good I have to give it credit.
Lotusguy Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Love them - never had a bad one yet. Can't wait for my 50 cab to arrive. I also really enjoy their PC and Demi Tasse and Lunch Club. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the Grandes De Espana the least of the bunch (only had 3 of those so far, though, and it wasn't bad - just not up to the standard set by the other vitolas).
khomeinist Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 These typically need at least five years of age. The wood, citrus, floral, and leather qualities take a few years to coalesce. The tannins fade and you are left with a fantastic cigar. I preferred the coronas and gran coronas, but alas they are discontinued. The GdE had frequent construction problems, but when on, was one of the best cigars in the world in terms of richness and complexity.
Hemsworth Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I have a box from '09 and I have loved every one of them. Mild to medium and I find it subtly complex.
investandprosper Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I have had stunning Choix (creamy, complex), and bitter, acrid Choix that I pitch halfway through, from the same box. Hard for me to get into these when they're all over the place.
khomeinist Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Aging reduces variability within a box. I have a cab from 2009 that is in deep hibernation. I know is sucks to buy fresh cigars and sit on them for five years, but with ERDM, it is highly recommended. That acrid flavor goes away and the flavors really come together.
ramon_cojones Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 No idea why these are offered in cabs when d4s are not, something clearly isn't right.
khomeinist Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 No idea why these are offered in cabs when d4s are not, something clearly isn't right. The ERDM CS cabs were discontinued. So they are not offered in cabs either. The Serie lineup for Partagas is new-school HSA all the way. 50 cabs ain't gonna happen.....
mk05 Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 CS? Love them. Something rustic and beautiful about them. That and the Fonsecas...
