Did my first rum review last week (El Dorado 12yr Old) check it out on the form section ANSA! I thought I should follow it up with a cigar review so today I’m having the Trinidad Reyes 17.99CDN with a single shot of espresso. PS. Sorry forgot to check the box code at the tobacconist, went to Casablanca Tobacconist in Toronto.

Appearance & Smell: This is a very tiny cigar a lot smaller then I thought, looking at picture on the net makes you think this cigar is a lot larger but it’s tiny. The first thing you notice is the pig tail very nice the cigar body has no veins and a very light brown milk chocolate wrapper. The smell is amazing probably the most chocolate I’ve smelt from a cigar from the foot of the cigar I’m getting a sweet smell not chocolate but something I cant put my finger on maybe a sweet fruit.

Cold draw: Getting a lot of sweetness of fruit & vanilla the draw is a good Cuban draw not to lose but a little of resistance.

The First: As soon as I take the first draw I get hit with a salty punch which I’ve never experienced in a cigar it like I ate a super salted pretzel. After the salt taste the cigar begins the floral tastes, the smoke was very creamy and thick of such a small cigar. These floral creamy taste continue for the reminder og the first third.

Second Third : This is where the cigars hits its highs the smoke is not as think anymore but the flavour is firing on all cylinders i’m getting sweet creamy smoke like hints of honey during the end of the of the second third fruits make an appearance. During the end of the honey & fruit flavours a little bit of spice lingers as a after taste on the pallet. Burn is uneven as you can see by the picture had to only fix once though.

Final: The finish of this cigar contains more fruit and honey flavours but with the spice playing a more up front roll flavour wise.

Overall: This little cigar really surprised me, would not have though there was such a range of flavour in this small cigar. That being said the flavours are in your face and thrown at you really fast given the fact of the size. I wish the Reyes came in a bigger format where the flavours would be able to meld better and the flavours would have more time to hit there notes in a slower manner. This cigar took 35-40 mins to smoke so the flavours came and went fast. Also if you Google this cigar everyone seems to say you need to age this cigar, add me to that list too, but I don’t think aging will do much I believe that people think aging this cigar will blend the flavours better but in such a small cigar I think that not possible.

Would I buy this cigar again ......I’m not sure maybe if I have no time to smoke and need a quick 30-40 min smoke other then that no I rather grab a Monte 4 which is half the price, I would want a larger length and ring gauge before I pick up a Trinidad again. 88/100 :buddies:

That looks delicious next to the expresso. Great job and very thorough review- I think you captured my experiences with rthe reyes for the most part. As far as aging, mine are almost 1 yr old and they smoke wonderfully. The only stick with a bit of bitterness was the first one I tried from the box, all it took was letting them sit and stabilize in the humi for 2 mo. I'm still waiting to get a vanilla note out of one of these, can't wait for that to happen

A great cigar imo, I really love these guys. Dude your lighter is sick, just sayin. And a little suggestion for future reviews, no need to mention how much and where you bought it.

Yea the vanilla was from the cold draw didn't really find it while smoking it either I got a few lashes of vanilla in the second third but was so quick wasn't really a predominant flavor. For the price 17.99CDN here in Toronto dammmm I'd rather pick up a Rocky Patel 15th Anniversary :liar: ! I know blasphemy!!!!!! :mob: ......ok maybe I wouldn't go that far lol but Trinidad are the most over priced Cuban in the world.

Lighter- Thanks dropped a pretty penny for the S.T Dupont Opus X but its an amazing tool :2thumbs:

Hey there, thanks for the review. You gotta figure out how to focus that camera! Cigar looks oily, and sounds like it must have been a newish box code - I only say that bc the ash on the ones I've smoked were much lighter in hue (2004).

As for bigger formats, the Robusto Extra is supposed to be the bigger brethren of the Reyes in flavor, along with the Fundidores. These three are famous for the "Trinidad" taste, which can be described as citrus.

What you mention sounds more like a Trini Robusto T. A pretty penny for sure considering the Reyes price tag, but I guarantee that you will like how it tastes!

LoL yea sorry this was taken outside with my iphone, yea the cigar was pretty oily I was getting a brownish black ash. I would like to try a Trinidad Robusto once but in Toronto it is 45.99 plus tax  so I dont think i'll be gravitating towards a larger Trinidad soon when I can get much better cigar from Cohiba,Monte, & Partagas for less. Like the FOH's said in some of there videos when looking at Trinis they are not competitively priced, love the flavors but price is a turn off when I can pick up so much more for FAR less. :dollarsign:

A bit of research ( 2 minutes) in the other vitolas would show you that you can get these for reasonable cost online and you will love them.

danistalking: Yea its a good place they have a pretty large humidor they carry both Cuban and none-Cuban cigars. Prices are very reasonable and if you Google them and go on their website you can find a list of cigars prices which not a lot of Toronto cigars stores put online, most of the prices are correct but a few are off. Cigars overall are in excellent condition and they are all pluming, def should walk in and check it out if your DT.
