Diamondog Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I am starting to become very interested in exploring Punch cigars. I prefer fuller bodied cigars and usually prefer larger rings. 2 Punch that have appealed to me are the super robusto and the sabrosos although both foh vid reviews have not been very endorsing. What are your fave punch and why, thanks.
Puros Y Vino Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 i've only had a few Punch, the DC and RE Super Robusto. The DC is absolutely delicious. Riaz refers to it as a Snicker's bar and that's exactly what it tastes like. Loaded with peanuty tastes. The Super Robusto had hints of it too but it was more floral overall. See if you can swing some trade at the herf. Punch is worth exploring.
CaptainQuintero Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Punch petit punch are fantastic, with some age on them they are just rum and raisin
Hohenthal Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Punch petit punch are fantastic, with some age on them they are just rum and raisin +1, and I'd like to add Royal Selection #11(07's and early 08's) and Super Selection #1 (if you can find from '03 or '06). Good luck, they are all discontinued but still some boxes around!
harryleech Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I'm a big fan of Punch - Particularly the DC, which I think is the best double corona going, also the Black Prince (may he rest in peace) and the Petit Punch. I wouldn't call them full bodied, but they are full of depth.
cottierm Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 The regular production has been so much ravaged in the past 10 years that there are very few things to go for in this brand. That said the DC is a staple for its size, has always been and hopefully will stay like that. As pointed out by Alex the two Super Selections were brilliant cigars while the Royal Selection # 11 is just a bit less good, but at least there are still boxes of them around. Best, Michel I am starting to become very interested in exploring Punch cigars. cckandb24 Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I have a box of 09 punch punches from czar. Pe quality I would be willing to trade. 20 left in the box. Not my cup o tea.
cigaraholic Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Fruity tobacco is my most favorite tobacco profile so there isn't a Punch I don't like. Since you like larger ring cigars I'd say try a box of Mag 50's, they come in 10 count boxes so you won't be out to much $$.
tydra Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I really am averse to categorizing a particular brand as my overall favorite brand, but along with Ramon Allones, Punch boxes are some of the most numerous in my humidor. What I like about Punch is that they're not following the beaten path of the more popular marcas and IMHO, have a more savory flavor profile full of sweetness, and "dark" fruits; not that a creamy Cohiba, Monte, Hoyo etc... doesn't blow my mind, but I do respect the Punch for when I'd like something different. Punch Royal and Super Selections are amazing, Royals being more on the sweet molasses/sugarcane side whilst the Supers on the more dark/fuller side. Also, if you can get your hands on them, one of my favorite cigars of recent production are the UAE RE Punch Robustos (2010). Baring in mind that I smoke 2 cigars a day on average, this cigar (smoked 2 to date out of 2 boxes I bought), still hammers me when it comes to the fullness department. To me, it has captured the essence of the Punch marca of stewed dark fruits (cherries especially), burnt brown sugar/sugarcane, and super quality tobacco in a concentrated and intense package.
goalie204 Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 2002 Punch Ninfas. THese cigars are 10/10 Epic good.
Michel1968 Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 RS#11 and SS#1 are my favs... perhaps not your preferred gauge but well worth a try.
cigaraholic Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 My bad, there's days I don't know an Upmann from a Punch. Maybe start with the classic Punch Punch.
aavkk Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Buddy you want to try some SS#2's, it might be the most age worthy blend ever rolled. An example from 92' smoked about a year ago was among the best smokes I've ever had. I have 2 cabs of the 98's that are stellar and will only get better and better. My 03 Punch SS#1's aren't yet ready to smoke in my opinion. It's no wonder they discontinued them, they take years and years to reach their potential- but when they do its divine.
BonVivant Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Punch from the '90s: one cannot go wrong with cigars rolled at La Corona (FR) or Villa Clara (VC) factories. Stay away from T.T.H.(regional facility in Holguin) factory codes and you will not be disappointed. According to Encyclopedia, Punch Monarca is probably the best cigar from the Marca.
mkz Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Punch WAS my favourite marca. Nowadays I consider it a DEAD marca. Thanks HSA!
MPS Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Punch is my favorite marca and to me the most unique in the Habanos range. Punch SS No.1 is my favorite cigar. I like them fresh or aged. If you are starting to dabble now I would recommend a fresh 2011 cab of Punch Punch. They are excellent. Skip the Regionals until you have had the classic vitolas in the line.
