Generalgman Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 A new year and no doubt HSA will be thinking about EL and Regional releases for 2012. Any views on what folks think may be in the pipeline or what they would like to see from HSA in 2012? With 199 days to go till London host the Olympics (and as a Londoner) I'd like to see and EL / UK Regional to celebrate... Now I don't recall anything done for Athens in 2004 or Sydney in 2000 (or for any other sporting event for that matter) so I'm just putting it out there... As far as marque, I'd like to see an Upmann. And the format, a Siir Winston (of course). But knowing HSA, they would probably give the Games a Monty Open EL, and with Londons fickle weather and HSA's recent trend in ELs, it would be an inch shorter than the Junior!
CaptainQuintero Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 We havent even had any of our 2011 REs still and there is no word on anything coming soon either. Maybe we will get an Olympic LE in 2014 Maybe H&F will put a band on something and call it a special edition ala the royal wedding packs they did Being London it would probably be an R&J churchill variation pack or something related to Churchill. There is a full list on trev's website on what everyone should be getting but nothing announced for us still, I'd like to see a Behike 46 or a Monte perfecto/double perfecto but can't see it somehow.
rckymtn22 Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 It is not a bad idea, but I think the way the IOC protects the Olympic trade mark I would doubt they would allow a special edition olympic cigar.
riazp Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 It is not a bad idea, but I think the way the IOC protects the Olympic trade mark I would doubt they would allow a special edition olympic cigar. Camacho got axed as a sponsor for the orange bowl...I Highly doubt that the IOC will allow a cigar to have the olympic rings on it or even be associated with it.
CaptainQuintero Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 They don't have to mention the Olympics, just put London 2012 somewhere on the package
riazp Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 or just put 5 bands on the cigars to reflect the 5 olympic rings...
riazp Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 A EL or RE "End of the World" for 2012 (?) if habanos release a long and skinny LE that would be one sign that the world was coming to an end
rckymtn22 Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 A EL or RE "End of the World" for 2012 (?) The Mayan Edition Limitata 2012
CaptainQuintero Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 A EL or RE "End of the World" for 2012 (?) Guantanamera Super Robusto
Schumi5 Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Camacho got axed as a sponsor for the orange bowl...I Highly doubt that the IOC will allow a cigar to have the olympic rings on it or even be associated with it. I'd be careful about making the IOC overally moral...keep in mind the official 'food' of the Olympics is McDonalds! They are certainly protective of the Olympic rings and trademarks but I don't think health is what necessarily drives this.
mm12 Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 My prediction: Some or possibly all of the following will be deleted: Bolivar Corona Junior Diplomaticos no. 2 Montecristo Especial nos. 1 and 2 H. Upmann Connoisseur no. 1 H. Upmann no. 2 H. Upmann Petit Coronas Por Larranaga Montecarlos Ramon Allones Small Club Coronas I will be very angry. I guess the silver lining is HSA is rapidly running out of cigars I love that they can delete. By 2015 or so, I probably won't have to get angry at the annual deletions anymore. By 2020, we'll be down to 50 ring guage plus Cohiba, Montecristo, and RyJ only... sold solely in boxes of 10 for $400+/box. Then I can actually root for the annual deletions.

British athletics is also trying to fight a decision that the IOC made which makes a country be unable to ban athletes who failed drugs bans then served the ban, currently Britain puts a lifetime ban on anyone who has been found guilty of using performance enhancing drugs, the IOC said this is wrong and stopped them banning players. So our team next year may have cheates in it and nothing can be done about it... LINKY

Upmann Connoisseur no. 1 H. Upmann no. 2 H. Upmann Petit Coronas Por Larranaga Montecarlos Ramon Allones Small Club Coronas If they were going to delete the Diplo 2, they would have done it when they deleted the rest of the line a year or two ago. They must have kept it for a reason. And I definitely can't see them deleting the Upmann Connie 1 or the no 2 (which has received rave reviews of late, amd was ranked no 21 in CA's top 25 cigars of 2011) anytime soon.
CaptainQuintero Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 The deletion for 2012 are already up: My link 2013 however, well I wouldn't be surprised to see big hits to Rafael Gonzalez, Sancho Panza, Saint Luis Rey and San Cristobal, probably some more R&Y being taken away to make room for the churchill lines, HDM maybe could loose some too?

I meant the next announcement. I obviously already knew about that particular batch of deletions. RG/SP/SLR/SCdlH have all already been pretty well gutted. They're all down to 2-4 vitolas. RyJ sucks too much for them to actually delete anything. I can see them axing the entire Le Hoyo line though. The dip 2 might be here to stay. I guess it depends on whether HSA has the balls to finish off the marca. Given their recent history, I'm betting they do. I think La Gloria Cubana is already gone and they just haven't bothered telling anybody. Medaille d'or no. 2s have been MIA for a good while now. As far as the Upmanns, since they had no problem axing the BCE and Robusto T, I don't think rave reviews are going to save anything. They are both great cigars, but I doubt they sell much at airport duty free shops.

Medaille d'or no. 2s have been MIA for a good while now. The only available LGC in the UK that I have been able to find are the UK RE from a few years ago, I'd assume that the line is basically a RE/LE only now
riazp Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Everything in a jar or some fancy laquered box with fancy ribbons inside! How many people here would jump at the opportunity to buy a "duty free exclusive" Montecristo extra wide petit edmundo that for some reason has a price tag of 500$ for a glass jar with 10 cigars in it? Admit it, even the "real" cigar aficionados are suckers for limited editions and fancy packaging. Especially when associated with a popular name. Not true Shlomo...you can get those awesome glass top limited edition cohibas, montecristo's and RyJ for really cheap on the beaches in cuba....their cousins father's brother in law works there...Duh!

I stopped buying all the limited **** 2 years ago and no regrets. If you buy their expensive crap, more will come and regular stuff will be axed.

Breaking news- there will be a 65 gauge monte relay, to share between 4 people, Britain is now searching the former colonies for some athletes with British grandmothers, who can smoke and pass without dropping it... It will cost £250 but is liable to cost a lot more as we get nearer to the games...someone underestimated....
CptKloss Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 yep 1+ inch gauge at 3 inches long! One day thay will come up with a masterpiece: thicker than longer!
Murri Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 yep 1+ inch gauge at 3 inches long! One day thay will come up with a masterpiece: thicker than longer! Not a Cuban but the size of this Nub is almost there at 4 x 64.
Skitalets Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I predict HSA will cancel all its remaining cigar lines in 2012, selling only (limited edition) lacquer boxes and porcelain jars in the future!
