headstand Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 I was just reviewing the comments that followed MannyFresh's THANKS alot Lisa! thread. What a hoot. So I thought it would be fun to hear more stories about the complicated dance between cigar smokers and their spouses. This is the best one I have to offer: I'm alone on the deck early on Friday evening puffing away on a Juan Lopez and enjoying a glass of Beaujolais. Life is good. My wife comes out, all smiles and looking ravishingly beautiful. Then all of a sudden her face clouds over. She turns to me and says, "That's disgusting". She steps to the table, grabs the glass of wine. "I'm taking this inside - you can have it later when your not ruining the taste with your cigar. Get yourself a scotch. Isn't that what you're supposed to have with a cigar?" Then she charges off with the wine. I love that woman...and I'm an obedient husband.
Colt45 Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 In one way I agree - I don't feel red wine and cigars go together - but that's just me. Otherwise, my pat answer is "get in the kitchen and make me a sandwich".
LeafLover Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 My obsession: cigars Her obsessions: shoes, clothes, jewelry Our unwritten rule regarding our obsessions: Don't ask, don't tell. Thankfully, I don't have any stories of outrage....yet.
Ghabanos Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 She doesn't complain about your smoking so that's a blessing already... I'd say... She encourages scotch too ... Wife is nice... I'm flexible as long as you don't restrict my cigars time

investandprosper Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 I had a QdO Corona with a glass of pino noir and it was a fantastic pairing. Your wife literally took away the glass of wine you were drinking, because in her opinion you shouldn't drink wine with cigars? Wars have been waged for less. At some point you have to decide if you're fine with her making personal decisions for you, otherwise you'll build up a lot of pent up bitterness and contempt.

If I pulled that off with the Mrs. my cigar would end up shoved right up my...

kevinfj Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Lady Piggy: Your smoke is blowing my way! Piggy: Why don't you move? I'll say it again Piggy. You are friggin hilarious. FJ

She would laugh at that one. Truth be told, I'm the least hen pecked man in these parts. We pretend otherwise, but I know it, she knows it. So long as I tell her she's pretty then all is good. Pinot Noir eh? I have a local one that has enough stuffing and fruit in it give it a go. Thanks.

77stoneblues Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 This weekend marked our third anniversary. My wife celebrated with a Cohiba Lancero and champagne. That's my girl
Squarehead Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 My wife lets me smoke and drink whatever I desire. When we go to the basement after dinner and I'm debating if I should have a smoke or not she says "go for it,you deserved it".People at her work say"you let your husband smoke in the house"?She anwsers, why not competition is big and that way he's at home.On the other hand if she wants to go to the Mall I'm going with her.At the end everybody is happy, otherwise our marriage wouldn't have lasted for over 45 years.

Puros Y Vino Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 My wife is not crazy about me smoking but she understands that I enjoy it. Once in a while she joins me. I keep Puritos on hand just for her. She used to be an ex cigarette smoker so I get the odd "not good for you" comments but I just retort that I can just as easily get hit by a car, (which I have had happened 2x in my lifetime) than get sick from cigars.
Mr.T Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Same here. My wife is not a huge fan of it, but she knows I enjoy it and understands it's my way of capping of a long day or just having some quiet time to myself. From time to time she will walk out and say "hmm, that smells good"....and then as soon as I climb into bed her parting words for the day are "God you stink, love you".
Strick28 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Somebody else mentioned it but my Wife does her thing and I do mine. Now there are occasions that she will join me for a fine cigar. Heck she even has her own and and I am warned not to touch...
aes8 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Last year my wife had plenty of time on her hands while she was job searching. About once a week should would send me a picture message of her smoking a new cigar she found in my humidor. It got to the point where I to seperate all the cigars I was trying to age so she diddn't break the box. Its a good problem to have.
cgarner Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 My wife doesn't really care. If she likes the cigar she joins in. She has yet to complain. Guess she is a keeper.
Scdalak Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 This pretty much sums up my domestic situation [/img]

I have that problem with my wine cellar - what a disaster if she started in on my cigars! Actually no, that would be kinda cool.
CanuckSARTech Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 My Mrs. is pretty cool about things. Like others have stated, she has her purses and shoes and chocolate fetishes. I have my cigars, rum, wine, cigars, hunting, fishing, SAR, cigars, powertools, golf, rum, cigars. So....we both have our hobbies. As long as no one is counting the dollar signs, we're both set! I don't smoke in the house - my choice first. I'm a former cigarette smoker, and I know how much cigarette or cigar smoke can stink things up, discolour blinds/paint/walls, devalue a vehicle/home, etc., etc. So, I only smoke outside, mostly out on my back deck, but also sometimes in my garage's "Man Cave", or next door in my neighbour's hottub with some good company and rums. But, with about 80% of my smoking being on the back deck, we've made it a nice experience for both of us. I've wired the back deck (and the whole house and back yard, for that matter), with high-end speakers and wiring. Big stainless BBQ'ing station there on a finished stone area just off the deck also. It's all finished up and lit up, the back deck, with weather-proof outlets for slider-controls for light dimmers, audio volume, channel/source selection, etc. There's some nice outdoor storage/shelving for storing some of my cigar acutrements, so that she doesn't have to deal with a dirty cigar ashtray or cutters clustering up her counterspace inside. And, there's room in the storage for her sunlotions and books, etc. So, we frequently sit out there, me smoking a cigar and having a rum or coffee, with her sometimes having the same and reading a book, both suntanning and enjoying the day's warmth, with the little guy either inside having a nap, or playing below us in his sandbox, or in the backyard itself. It's quite nice. She says she enjoys it, because we can just sit and talk, not interrupted by a TV or anything, or we can just sit quietly, enjoying our individual pleasures. She's always commented positively on the aromas of certain cigars, and she's quite proficient at picking up individual hits of dark chocolate, herbal, cloves, cedar, or fruit aromas, etc. She's said a couple of times, usually while drunk on the rum, that she'd like me to one day teach her how to smoke a cigar, but "not now, because of the rum!" But, it's something that I don't feel like doing - she's a nurse, and I wouldn't hear the end of it from her co-workers! (My inlaws don't mind it at all, although neither of them partake). And, even with her being a nurse, there's no issue with nagging or any goofy reminders about cancer and health issues, blah, blah, blah. We both know and understand any potentials that are there, and both fully acknowledge that my 10 years or so as a pack-a-day-average cigarette smoker a while ago has already contaminated me far more than a lifetime of cigar smoking will do to me. So, the damage is already potentially done, and she's the first one to say that there's far worse and more dangerous stuff in the world around us besides that. She likes the smell, and loves me having a relaxing enjoyment that we can both enjoy in our backyard together, or especially away on trips too. I got me a good one.
riazp Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 My wife dosnt complain about it what so ever, guess i'm lucky
aes8 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I have that problem with my wine cellar - what a disaster if she started in on my cigars! Actually no, that would be kinda cool. We are very fortunate men.
