A good friend of mine invited me over to have a birthday cigar this evening. He brought out a Trinidad Coloniales, from 2003!!!!! OMG what an amazing cigar it was, cold draw had a sweet flavor. The amount of smoke was amazing.

We chatted over this cigar and he came to the conclusion - cigars are so much better with some age. (something everyone here says, but until now I haven't known why)

So we go into his office and start to pull out his cigars. He came across 9 Trinidad Fundadores with the old style band. He thought he had smoked the ones he had and had no clue that he even had some left. He said those must be at least 12 years old.

He said "I think that I need some kind of database, to help me keep track of what I have." So I said that I would come here and ask what people use.

So are there any good programs for a PC for keeping track of your cigars?

I use a simple blank ledger book with the Marca listed at the top of every page. It also serves as a menu when I have friends over. It also helps eliminate the "humidor stare".

I also use this for minor notes, i.e. box code, purchase date, purchage price, where acquired, box type, number of cigars, etc.

Business first.... MODERATORS!!!!!

Now that's cleared things up, here's what you'll need:

WMS software (warehouse management system)

RFID scanner and tags

Speech to Text software

Attach the tags to all your cigars and scan them into the WMS program, assigning a specific reference number for each one. Whenever you take out a cigar, scan it again (for maintaining inventory control) and use the speech to text software to amend the listing with comment as you smoke. By doing this, you will always know exactly how many cigars you have, when you need to purchase more, and how they are smoking as they age!

Of course this is just my little musing... :daydream:

iPhone has an app called Mobile Stogie. I think it was a few dollars, but it's very user friendly and I like it since I always have my phone with me. I don't recall if it's available on the Android market.

I have been using Excel but if I get bored enough and have some free time on my hands I might just write one of my own ... in fact maybe I could write a mobile app and make some cash on the side .....

I use Mobile stogie app for my iphone. It's a lot easier to have my phone with me anywhere to keep it up to date, and there is a feature that allows you to email yourself a .csv that can be easily imported into any spreadsheet software (ex: excel) - I don't want to have to run to my computer everytime i take cigars out.

Very simple Excel sheet, track brand, vitola, my storage date, box code/date and quantity....

I use excel, with columns for cigars I smoke and those friends smoke. Thaen I add a worksheet for each cigar, and keep tasting notes, dates I smked, venue, etc. It's grest to go back and remember each experience. Also helps me see what I need to re-order.
