El Presidente Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Landed at EZE Buenos Aires Airport a few days ago. The US does a lot of things right...Apple, Caterpillar, Massey Ferguson etal....American Airlines ain't one of them I will give one thing to AA in that they got me here safe. Outside of that and after flying with them 5 times now on long haul flights, they are so far behind leading Asian and UAE carriers that Ken would kiss the wings Qantas flies on. Anyway to Buenos Aires Beautiful city, successful busines triip, met some great people, ate some great food drunk some great wine, went to a Cigar Divan...excellent, have my favourite local bar open at 9am, walked the streets at night in the safe district of Recoleta.......not smart. No need to expand but seriously folks....stray one street out of the "safe" areas (whatever that is) and be prepared. I suppose that is the same in most parts of the world but there is a spin to this. Had dinner and lunch with business partners here who are residents/nationals for some 14 years. One kidnapped in 2002 and the other in 2004. My shirts are a little too colourful, my watch a little too big. I speak good Spanish, I sing when I walk alone at night, I tend to visit bars and have an ABF (absolutely bloody final)... but I stand out like a sore thumb. I broke every rule in the book but at the same time I have done so wherever I have gone around the world and particularly in central and south america. This is one city where it does not pay to break the rules. Times are good for some, very tough for many. A 10 peseta tip ($3) is regarded as a goldmine by cab drivers in a country where every peseta counts. It also makes you a mark. Outside of the great people I have met and the business opportunities to blossom ...I am looking forward to getting on that plane tomorrow morning and heading to Santiago Chile...watch in tact, money in tact, not too worse for wear. And Keith, before I head out tonight for a last harrah!....I am finishing off that ice wine you gifted me....brilliant!....and goes well with a HDM E2 on the balcony of my hotel. Hasta Luego! Rob
TankerT Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Anyone here in the USA that has traveled on any Asian airline, or Qantas will tell you they wished those airlines operated here too. And, mind you... I'll fly American Airlines over United or US Airways any day. AA is one of our "better" airlines when it comes to a lot of the various reviews.
IcedCanuck Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 By the sounds of it most things turned out well and you've had some memorable times. Cudos to you be safe
Squarehead Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I hope the rest of your journey remains safe.
sblevit Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Geez, I actually thought my flight from Miami to BA on an AA 777 was one of the nicest flights I've ever had. Now I'm wondering what I'm missing with the Asian airlines.
DblToro Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Chile should be nice, quite different then the rest of the SA countries. Bet you will have some nice fish dishes, wine and will pair up your sticks nicely. Keep your sail full and send some more pics so we can live vicariously thru them. Cheers.
riazp Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Safe travel Rob! we need you to stay in one peice

bassman Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Been to BA several times. Facinating city, but like any BIG city, you should be careful. Piece of cake compared to Guatemala.
Ginseng Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Safe travels, Rob. Traveling any of the major US airlines in anything other than business or first is terrible. Just no other way to say it. I'm in the air maybe 40 times a year and on these lines and it has been my experience that often, the smaller airlines are more humane. Wilkey
kiwirwe Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Safe travel Rob,watch your back. I no what you mean about a tip of ($3) is alot of money in some parts of the world,(thailand) you are only trying to help some one and pay for the good service, but that can make you a mark. Be safe my friend.

First Lady Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Honestly honey what do I do with you... come back in one piece I miss you
CanuckSARTech Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 And Keith, before I head out tonight for a last harrah!....I am finishing off that ice wine you gifted me....brilliant!....and goes well with a HDM E2 on the balcony of my hotel. Excellent, Rob, kudos! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Their 2009 vidals are excellent stuff - haven't paired it with a cigar myself yet, but definitely think the fruity sweetness would go well with that pairing. Hell....I'm just super glad that your bottle didn't get lost in that drunken debauchery of a weekend here in Toronto! Glad you enjoyed it, Rob! Cheers.
