pedromendes Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Like everyone here, I've been watching these deletions with dismay for the past few years. I'm wondering if there is anything we can actually do? There are 9,000 members of this community. If we were act, especially reaching out to the broader community at our local B&Ms, we could potentially mobilize thousands more. I know HSA are obstinate to say the least, but would a letter-writing campaign - actually paper letters mailed in - make a difference? After all, if what they see is sales numbers (which, sadly, go up as they focus on "special" and "limited" overprices cigars) they think everything's just fine. Has this been done before, and to no effect? Thoughts?
toasterhead Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I have a 50 cab of BCE that I will sell to you for (Dr. Evil pinky to the side of the mouth) "One meeellion dollars" Seriously, what a cluster. A dark day indeed. Dave
riazp Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Don Pedro, I think the only way we'll be heard is with our wallets. We need to stop Buying the LE's and RE's and overpriced cohiba BHK's. They are a business afterall, stop buying overpriced over hyped cigars and instead spend that money on discovering the lesser known habanos brands, the Quai D'orsay's, ERDM's, SLR's, JL's, Sancho Panza, Rafael Gonzalez. I know thats what i'll be doing personally from now on. Riaz

While I will continue to look for lesser known cigars, I think it's important that HSA knows exactly how we feel, and don't have to infer it from sales numbers.
Colt45 Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Has this been done before, and to no effect? Yes - I believe it came about when the Paratgas SdC line was put on the chopping block - here's a link to one of the threads: Link

Nocoins Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Yes - I believe it came about when the Paratgas SdC line was put on the chopping block - here's a link to one of the threads: Link Right. And ever since, cigars have gotten more expensive, bigger, shorter, fatter, even fatter, or some combination thereof. It's a shame.
Colt45 Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 well, that's depressing. Yes - this is how they continue to reward their loyal customers (not necessarily including myself here). In the past, Many members have mentioned ways to keep from completely cutting some of these cigars. Reduce production, perhaps only release some of the slower sellers once a year, which might help create a little buzz, with people stocking up when they are released, etc. Again, I can't help but feel that some day soon, there will no longer be a monopoly when it comes to Cuban cigars, and I look forward to that. Some might argue for the tradition and history of the current "brands", but in my mind, that is all just that - history. So, I say "cheers!" to a new era.
perfectform Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I thought they were crazy to cut the 50;s of the BCE but now this horse ? Box of BCE ordered for posterity. <-------(Hasbenos S.A.)
compitaveggie Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Can someone please list all the cigars being deleted. Im at work and videos can not be played thanks!!! Jose

CBL Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 This isn't gonna help at all, so forgive me. But this does match Rob's earlier guideline, as the last Bolivar Corona Extra I smoked came from my local LCDH and was from an '07 box

thechenman Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 While the disappearance of certain packaging options is disheartening...it is the cigars that are going away entirely that are the true losses for us habanos smokers. Bolivar Corona Extra - My favorite Bolivar cigar. What a shame. Fonseca No. 1 - My favorite Fonseca cigar. Hoyo de Monterrey Churchill - Have always prefereed the Double Corona over the Churchill, but still a big loss for the marca. La Gloria Cubana Tainos - This marca is now left with only two vitolas, the 2 and 4. I guess that's still better than the Diplomaticos lineup. The Taino was a classic and will be missed by many. El Rey Mundo Petit Corona - Yes...there are lots of PCs, but still this was someone's favorite. Romeo y Julieta Petit Princess - Another one gone... Sancho Panza Molinos - Another marca whittled down to just two vitolas. Trinidad Robusto T - Come on now. My favorite Trinidad cigar, and one that was just recently released. You've gotta be kidding me...what the hell are they thinking.
tmac77 Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 thanks Tmac Jose Got the List from Riazp as I also do not have sound on my office computer. Thanks Riaz. Tom
riderpride Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I'm not mad as much as disappointed. Other than sales numbers, I wonder what other information they collect/analyze to aid in decision-making.

maverickdrinker Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 This is like being in Bizarro land?!? This changes my buying strategy in Cuba in November dramatically. Buying as many robusto Ts as I can.

Me too, i'm going in january and this defenitly changes my shopping list. its now P1 jar, BCE, Punch PCDP, and a couple of boxes of Tainos if I can find them...better yet a 50 cab of BCE if i can
cottierm Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Interesting idea Riaz, but how would you do that with what is still available? Sancho Panza, Rafael Gonzalez, Quay D'Orsay have already been decapitated! (Now we can add our mourning of the Molinos, what a shame). And what about the Punch line? As pointed out by Shlomo on another forum, they managed in the space of a decade to ruin such a glorious brand. Don Pedro, I think the only way we'll be heard is with our wallets. C'est vrai Michel, One thing i'll do personally, No wasting money on LE's and RE's they are ovepriced dissapointment, and i'll start discovering new habanos brands, my first step is I bought a box of ERDM choix supremes. Probably i'll get SLR A's next. baby steps I guess...you want to talk about habannos decapetating brands...Diplomaticos is a prime example. I'm STILL PISSED about the deletion of the dip 4 and 5
