Hey gents,

It's been a looooooong time since I've bought a box of cigars. This year has been a year of changes and now that we're settled in, I'd like to get back in the game. As far as my faves, historically anything Bolivar and Partagas I've enjoyed but I enjoy almost all marcas aside from Sancho Panza, Rafael Gonzalez, and Fonseca. I like dalias, coronas, robusto, and churchill formats as well as the venerable PC. I haven't really paid attention to developments so any guidance as to best recent picks would be greatly appreciated.

Bolivar Royal Corona's from 2009 have been really really good. The current stock seems to be just as good if not better, but may need age. You can never go wrong with the Petit Corona's IMO.

H.Hupman 46, Partagas Lusitanias, Montecristo Edmundo, are great purtos to have in your humidor.

+1 on the Partagas 898's and the Mag 46's

I have also seen a recent return to form of the Punch Punch.

One of my personal favorites at the moment are the H. Upmann Sir Winnies and the LGC Tainos.

In the RE's the PL Encantos, even as a young cigar are outsanding for me.

Mmmmm, the Boli RCs from 2006 were some of the very best I've had of that vitola. Excellent suggestion especially if the '09 are anywhere like the '06.

How about something on the Prez's HOT 10 list from the last Warehouse Review?

Headed over there. Thanks, mate. :violin:

Been a revival in interest for quai d'orsay...

Really? That's a wonderful thing. The Coronas is one of my faves and a wonderful "sweet cream and tea" cigar. Just so happens I finished the last cigar from my last box last Fall. Maybe a good time to restock.

Mag46...got several cabs just chugging along. An all time fave of mine. Haven't had a Partagass 898 since the '08 IIRC. Hope they've gotten a bit more consistent and punchy since then. Punch Punch...never made that love connection. Sir Winnies, sublime to be sure. Have not bought new since the excellent '01 vintage so perhaps time to restart the lineage. Tainos, wonderful! Haven't touched any since the early 2000's. How is this one doing?

I have smoked a great many PL vitolas and vintages. Still looking to make that caramel connections. Might take up shrink's recommendation to go all the way and splash for the PL Robustos.

Thank you gents! You've let me know all is still essentially good and right with the world of Habanas. Choices, choices.

PSD4s or Royal corona's are rely good lately

Really? For real? It's been since so long since I've had a consistently good box of PSD4s. Has the crapshoot element of this cigar diminished somewhat?

On the Tainos. I have a number of boxes (LRE DIC 09). Got them from Czar and are wonderful.

Just got a box of the same code in HQ, beautiful looking sticks. I might have to add a couple more boxes from this date. Haven't tried any yet though.

Indeed. :D

I am open to revising my mental probabilities regarding the PSD. I'm open to them not delivering me 50% duds in a box. :P I want them to be good. Well, as good as they once were. And more consistent.

I just received an incredible box of HQ Bolivar Royal Coronas, POL MAY 10, from the Czar crew. The absolute best Boli RCs I've ever had. Oily wrappers, bursting with flavor. Have Rob pick out a box for you and you won't be disappointed. Photo attached - I put them in a CoRo box because I think cigars smoke better when stored in cabs.

What about a box of Monty Petit edmundos?

I'm not really a "short and stubby" guy. I went through a 10-box of these and really didn't enjoy the profile or the form-factor. This stick is tripping close to Nub cigar territory for me. The regular Edmundos I do enjoy.

I'd recommend the following if you're buying recent stuff, based on my limited experience, ymmv:

HdM Des Deux, Epi #1, or EE if you like milder but tasty cigars

Bolivar Royal Coronas if you like a flavorful, medium-bodied stick (creamy and a bit floral at times).

H. Upmann Mag 46 if you're more of a medium-full guy (loads of coffee and some chocolate ... just plain fantastic)

Bolivar Corona Extra & Partagas 898v if you're a full-bodied cigar lover

Trinidad Robusto T if you like 'em spicy but not super strong (med to med-full)

Partagas Short & Bolivar Corona Junior if you don't have much time to smoke but want a full-sized cigar experience

why not go with the "splits" offers at the Czar. both the Robusto splits and the grand corona seems like a perfect way for you to start building stock again. that's what i would have done. cheers

Not a bad idea at all, especially since then you could see for yourself before going all-in on a bunch of boxes.

The corona gorda splits is the most appealing to me personally, followed by the robusto and pc ... but all the splits have a Bolivar I think, so you're set however you go
