Golf is coming to Cuba.

The Communist country for decades had notoriously rebuffed the sport as an example of "bourgeoisie excess."

But in a recent effort to reel in tourist dollars, Cuban leaders approved four major projects totaling around $1.5 billion, of which half will go to the government.

Cuba's tourism minister told the paper that the island could soon have as many as 16 golf courses, and that foreigners would be able to buy homes near the resorts.

The resorts are aimed at Canadian, European and Asian tourists; as Americans are still barred from spending money in Cuba.

Hmmm.. Cuba would be a nice place for a "winter" home.

The Consul is about a 10 minute walk from my house. Maybe I'll swing by and see what they have to say...could be inetersting, but I'm sure not cheap.

i play golf myself but the idea of cuba becoming just another golf resort for foreigners doesn't hold any appeal

maybe if the courses were also open to cubans for a peso or less that would change my mind... but does anyone see what i'm getting at here?
