Stalebread
I've been asked if I know what the pictured cylindrical object -- not the shoe last -- is. Well, the answer is "no." (The asker knows I smoke cigars and thinks the object is cigar related.) I have not seen the item itself, only these photos. Anyone have any idea what this is? At first glance I thought it was just a singles case but the center section is too short I think. Both end sections are solid wood. The center section is some kind of paper board. The red thing is wax. Thanks for any info or ideas anyone has.
dB69
When talking about tobacco, the shape of the object reminds me of Vauen pipes. For example: link I don't really think it's a pipe, but this was just my association and a wild guess...
cigcars
It's obviously SOME kind of a container. But what it's meant to store I don't know. Maybe snuff??
laficion
Ken, To be seriously serious, it looks like the central piece for a wall mount toilet paper roller. I hope that I'm wrong Or, it could be a custom Tailor's tool ?

MrGlass
It looks like the handle of a tool used by a Cordwainer (shoe maker), and given that there is a last in the photo it kind of makes sense to jump to that conclusion. A number of the tools they use seem to have handles like this: http://www.cordwainertools.com/index.php?route=common/home Nick.
Stalebread
Thanks for your thoughts, Gentlemen. I asked the person who has this thing if the inside has any aroma. The reply was that it smells only like wax, not tobacco. I suspect it has nothing to do with cigars other than shape.

Stalebread
You have lovely hand writing Thanks but no. My writing is so bad that I don't even bother with cursive anymore, I just print. The pages you see are part of the photos that were sent to me. Looks like pages from a 1943 accounts book of some kind.

BobKincaid
In this age of technology it seems that good penmanship has become an extremly rare commodity... Rare enough that some school systems are ceasing teaching cursive altogether. No joke.
Fuzz
That is such a shame the penmanship is being phased out. I find I concentrate better when I write. I've actually started to practice calligraphy again after first taking it up over 20 years ago.
