ammarhaider01 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Hey there guys, it's been a long while since I posted anything, tough past few months, I hope everyone's doing well. I've been given the weirdest gift ever, a cellophane wrapped bunch of Cohibas, I'm not even sure which ones but seem to be the Siglo VI, long story on how and why they're wrapped like that, but my first impression was they're fakes, couldn't tell the poor fella as he was giving them in good faith. The band looks fine, but I've done some quick search and from what I found, the white dots above the golden Cohiba should be 3 rows, this one has 4. I've tried one and it was ok but didn't have that cigar smell, I'm not a Cohiba expert but all cigars have cigar smell, this one doesn't, smoking is ok I guess, the smell of it burning is nice but that's probably the only good thing about it. Of course the Cellophane wrap tops it all. Here are some pix, tell me what you think. Cheers.
dochowl Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 nothing quite like a nice bundle of Siglo V1... think of all the money you save on that expensive box.
cigcars Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Eh, hm I'm sorry Jordan but it looks like a case of your friend gladly feeling that he found a great bargain for his friend. The cap does not appear to be the triple cap Cubans are standard for. The label on the band for the new gold lettering that came out in the (early 2000's?) should not only be thicker but more embossed instead of flat, and the dots, yes, are quite suspect. And I do respect, greatly, your not opting to burst his bubble about his gift for you. These things happen. As long as it doesn't taste ammonia-like, have horse-**** flavor, or spill out sections of hair, dirt, etc. you probably got a nice Dominican LaUnica or something that at least won't be detrimental to your health. Sorry
Puros Y Vino Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Yup fake. The four dots and the font for "Cohiba" are off. The stick itself doesn't look very good either. Don't smoke any more of them.
ammarhaider01 Posted June 21, 2011 Author Posted June 21, 2011 Thanks for the feedback guys, if I could tell the story he told me on how they're brought from "Cuba" and why they're wrapped in cellophane I would, closer to a 007 movie than a simple shipment. I think I might end up telling him that after seeking the advice of professionals "you guys lol" I've concluded that they're fake, I'd hate for him to 1- keep bringing me bundles of the same crap every once in a while, and 2- spending his money on actual crap! Cheers guys!
Diamondog Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 CC's don't come cello'd and there is one too many rows of dots, nice warp to the head of the cigar...

Cheers guys! My fear was that he keeps spending money on fakes. Be polite and gracious and maybe have him over for the real thing. The whole "teach a man to fish" argument

android Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 That looks like something I pushed out last week and it got a band slapped on it!
Guest leanderdsilva Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 That was a good buy! Why pay extra for the box when the cello is so much cheaper?
MadMax Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 You have to tell your friend. You can't have him buying fakes. Be careful smoking those fakes, some of the fakes are now being stuffed with newspaper and the ink is getting people sick!
Cohiba Stevie Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 They are definatley fakes, and you really should use common courtesy to tell your friend about them. What i would do is cut one open and examine its contents, if there is tobacco in there with no foreign matter i would have no problem smoking them, shame to waste them, besides they are by no means the worst fakes ive seen.
