Ryj Churchill - I have to qualify this review by saying for some reason this stick didn't impress me. maybe I was expecting too much, maybe I had too much on my mind.

Construction almost flawless

Light veins

Bit of oil

Barn yard aroma

Bit of manure scent

@ Cold not much flavor drawn

Draw on the tight side - I like a bit of tightness, but this was too tight for me. I was hoping that it would loosen up with a bit of toasting

hint of Coffee

1/3

Smooth - real smooth

Grassiness

Toasted tobacco

draw did not loosen up

ash first fell after the1.5 inch mark

2/3

a touch spice on tip of tongue

Continued smooth

hint of Coffee

Tightened draw - too wet? really not enjoying this

Perfect burn, I was loving the ash

3/3

final third didn't really change much.

I was enjoying the smoothness,

but the flavors didn't morph into anything new...

draw was still tight.

Apologies for the lack of photos, my phone ran out of batt.....

rating 88 albeit not impressed by any distinct flavors (could be the fault of my own palette - but we'll say no for now), it was pure smoothness and construction was impeccable. points lost on tight draw...

I have to agree with your review, never been a fan of the churchill myself, I'd rather have a short or even wide churchill.....

How the mighty have fallen. They really haven't recovered any consistency since R&J Factory closed down 2004/5.

You still get some which wow you. Unfortunately it is a little like Halley's Comet.

Thanks for the excellent Review! :spotlight:

Excellent review , well done :spotlight:

Sorry to see this classic Churchill fall so low, I haven't had one in a while

and it still may be a while before I do. :cigar:

This was my first high profile Cuban cigar. The "Churchill" is an icon. The first one I had was utterly brilliant. It was from a friend's tubo. Every single one I've had since then has been a major disappointment. Painful draws, plugged at all thirds, multiple relights needed and loss of dimension in tastes. I have five left over in my humidor which I am loathe to touch. They just haven't been the same. On the positive side, the Short and Wide Churchills do deliver a consistently enjoyable smoking experience. It's too bad their predecessor has fallen by the wayside.

"icon" is what I went in thinking also... maybe my expectation was way too high...

Icon seems to be appropriate in this case. Even before I was into cigars I knew what a "Churchill" was. Not sure how, maybe movies, documentaries....etc.

Maybe you should have taken the band off and smoked the first inch only? You could've had a cigar of the year contender in your hands. :spotlight::cigar:
