El Presidente Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 These Swiss Releases have come on my buy list for next month but I would like to hear the thoughts of people who have smoked them before I commit to any. They will need to be excellent for me to be interested. Juan Lopez Maximo (Hermoso No 2) RR 2008 Por larranaga Valiosos (Piramide) RR 2009
mkz Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 Out of curiosity (and perhaps this has already been mentioned in some post): Arent regional editions supposed to be available in specific regions only? How come, for example, canadian, swiss etc turn up in the pacific? Is it surplus handed out to those retailers interested around the globe? Just curious...

PCC has an interest in the Canada operations. On top of that, occasionally the distributors swap minimal RR stock between themselves so that their top end retail buyers in their territory can experience different cigars.
OZCUBAN Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 Hi Rob Whilst I have not smoked any of these the Por larranaga Valiosos (Piramide) RR 2009 look delicious if they are as good as our R/R they will be awesome Cheers Oz

Thanks for clearing that out Rob. But isnt there a risk for damaging the "exclusiveness" of the RR if offered outside its original region?
cigcars Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 *Well, El Pres, I've had both. And I'm sorry to report them a tad underfilled and air-like. Of course that doesn't have to mean I didn't get a dud or two out of a possibly good cigar. But I don't think I'd be ordering either of these as fixated as I am about Regionals!

Not if you are talking about a 1000 sticks or so. I see nothing wrong with sharing the love after your region has been well and truly looked after.
sblevit Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 I have smoked the Maximo and have a few of them resting in my humi. It's a big cigar with a somewhat standard JL flavor profile. It was good, but I wouldn't call it "excellent". There are certainly better REs out there. I would say get a fiver rather than commit to a whole box if you can.

First Lady Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 sorry for going off track a bit for my own benefit but does that mean that I may be able to find a box of Vegas Robaina Petit Robaina sitting in a warehouse in Brisbane? :) I have it on my list for Rob to check this week when he goes and spends time in the warehouse... want to make sure they are up to your standard
ewipper Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Lis, The maximos are terribly underfilled with a profile very similar to the jlo 4, perhaps a bit more floral. The cigars taste fine, But I was not into the fireproof wrappers and mushy tobacco.
ewipper Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 The valiosos are nice enough cigars but I find that the non-uk pl regionals taste a bit thin.
craigos Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 I liked the PL valiosos a lot, didnt care for the the maximos at all.
