PigFish Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Don't see any spaghetti westerns. Anyone who likes the Wild Bunch has got to like the No Name Trilogy! Nice thread mate. Finish up already so we can add movies!!! -LOL -Piggy
kfurlong Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Great thread. Good work. Please tell me you've got "Lost Highway", "Fresh", Donnie Darko", "Se7en", "Heat" and "Infernal Affairs" in there somewhere! +1 on Donnie Darko and Se7en. I'd also recommend The Departed as that is one of my personal favorites.
tmac77 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 how about a movie with a surprise ending. "Shlomo makes it to the Toronto Herf"
riazp Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 how about a movie with a surprise ending. "Shlomo makes it to the Toronto Herf" LOL!! dont hold your breath Tom...
stefan850 Posted August 18, 2011 Author Posted August 18, 2011 Wait and see guys. I already made the list before I started this thread so no suggestions sorry And once more, this list is not going from worst to best, 28 is not better than 97, although I'm saving my 3 favorite movies for last.
brazoseagle Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I hope we see Lonesome Dove, Sneakers, The Natural, Tombstone, King Arthur, The Game and Heat before this list is over.
stefan850 Posted August 19, 2011 Author Posted August 19, 2011 While all good, I hope we see a bunch of movies that I have never seen so that I will be guided in their direction. I hope the next 30 or so movies are super obscure movies that we should all see, but have not yet. Oh, and don't forget Major League! Unfortunately that won't be the case I'm afraid These are my favorite movies in general, there are some obscure movies but most of them are very well known. I could make a list in the future of the best movies you probably have not seen yet
cigcars Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I've begun to become a diehard Robert Rodriguez fan, though not from his El Mariachi trilogies but for "Sin City" as mentioned before, and "Machete" starring his cousin Danny Trejo. Danny has served prison time and was undefeated prison champion boxer. If you look at him in "Machete" it's hard to believe that guy is almost 70 years old!!!
stefan850 Posted August 26, 2011 Author Posted August 26, 2011 35. "The only place I get hurt is out there. The world don't give a **** about me. " The Wrestler - 2008 A faded professional wrestler must retire, but finds his quest for a new life outside the ring a dispiriting struggle. Director: Darren Aronofsky Stars: Mickey Rourke, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood Why Should you watch it: Because like Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea, is not about the Wrestler the same way it's not about the Man and the Sea, it's about pain. It's about life hurting you. 34. "You have not much future there. It will happen this way. You may be walking. Maybe the first sunny day of the spring. And a car will slow beside you, and a door will open, and someone you know, maybe even trust, will get out of the car. And he will smile, a becoming smile. But he will leave open the door of the car and offer to give you a lift." 3 Days of the Condor - 1975 A bookish CIA researcher finds all his co-workers dead, and must outwit those responsible until he figures out who he can really trust. Director: Sydney Pollack Stars: Robert Redford, Faye Dunaway and Cliff Robertson Why Should you watch it: One of the best conspiracy theory thrillers, an benchmark. 33. "I'll be back" Terminator 2 - 1991 The cyborg who once tried to kill Sarah Connor must now protect her teenage son, John Connor, from an even more powerful and advanced Terminator. Director: James Cameron Stars: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and Edward Furlong Why Should you watch it: Because it's stil fun. 32. There's an exit back this way. Noodles, go through it. Keep walking. Don't turn around. Once Upon A Time In America - 1984 A former Prohibition-era Jewish gangster returns to Brooklyn over 30 years later, where he once again must confront the ghosts and regrets of his old life. Director: Sergio Leone Stars: Robert De Niro, James Woods and Elizabeth McGovern Why should you watch it? Because it's the most epic story of a friends betrayal. 31. Every civilization finds it necessary to negotiate compromises with its own values. Munich - 2005 Based on the true story of the Black September aftermath, about the five men chosen to eliminate the ones responsible for that fateful day. Director: Steven Spielberg Stars: Eric Bana, Daniel Craig and Marie-Josée Croze Why should you watch it: Because professional killers have never been more realistically put on the movie screen. Also because it's (to a degree) true. 30. It's like seeing someone for the first time, and you look at each other for a few seconds, and there's this kind of recognition like you both know something. Next moment the person's gone, and it's too late to do anything about it. Out Of Sight - 1998 A career bank robber breaks out of jail and shares a moment of mutual attraction with a US Marshall he has kidnapped. Director: Steven Soderbergh Stars: George Clooney, Jennifer Lopez and Ving Rhames Why should you watch it: The Coolest film ever. Period. Also, to see the time when there was a Jennifer Lopez, a good actress, not J.Lo a mediocre singer.
Guest robusto101 Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Awesome thread! Have seen many of these movies and think most are great. Some nicely underrated ones in there, too. Thanks for posting!
