Rehman Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Somewhat to my alarm, since my retirement six months ago I have slipped into the ranks of the multiple-daily cigar smoker. What used to be a mere weekly indulgence is now partaken of two or three times a day. There are three reasons for this: abundant free time (so called because no one pays me for it any more), home premises unwelcoming of those allergic to, offended by or intolerant of tobacco products, and petit coronas. I was never fond of petit coronas. I considered them "lunchtime cigars", for nervous, time-challenged circumstances unbefitting the true enjoyment of a cigar. But now that mornings have come online as leisure time - rare in the life of a working stiff; the delight of the retiree - these little darlings have come into their own as breakfast companions. But then what? A 30-minute smoke just isn't enough for the day, once the tongue, palate and sinuses have been so hedonistically awakened. So then comes a rich robusto with afternoon tea, and if that doesn't complete the job, an elegant toro after dinner. It's all too much, I tell you, and I blame petit coronas.
Rogers72 Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Congrats on your free time! Your dilemma sounds like a good one! I REALLY enjoy Petit Coronas. I feel that they are typically really good in the "bang for you buck" category as it typically takes me close to an hour to smoke them. They are perfect for that one Weeknight cigar with a glass of wine OR for a nightcap after a larger cigar on a long weekend night when I may be in the mood for further indulgence. Also, where I live, it is quite humid in the summer so I often opt for two PC's rather than one larger cigar as the excessive ambient humidity can wreak havoc on a larger cigar before you have time to finish.
anacostiakat Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Congrats on your retirement. Not quite there yet. I rarely smoke PC's or minutos by themselves. Preferring to have them as a last cigar of the evening.
Dbone Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Wow Rehman! Sounds like you made a U turn right into the world of Petit Coronas. Some are my favorite. The Bolivar, Por Larranaga, Diplomaticos to mention a few. The free time you have now, Rehman, only comes to me in dreams. Multiple cigars in a day is a very rare event, but I can find equal enjoyment from a tasteful Petit Corona just as much as from any other vitola for a single daily escape. Much like yourself, I find the Petit Coronas a wonderful morning cigar.
riazp Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 I know your dilemma, At first I was not a big fan, but as my palette has evolved, PC's have fastly become a permenant staple in my humi, the partagas short and trinidad reyes being my favorites, and with fellow botls, we ordered 5 boxes split five ways so I have 5 of each coming my way in the next few days : boli pc, dip 4, rassc, scdlh el principe and 5 more party shorts! cant wait!
Omskakas Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Oh, and I was just complaining about having too much sex with too beautiful women...
cigaraholic Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Sounds like your saying petit coronas are the gateway cigar. Welcome to the 3 a day club!
Rehman Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 Rehman...you are living the life. I'm envious. Ah, but that was the intention! I should never speak of the sacrifices involved in arriving at this pass, save to say that God has a sense of balance... though that matter of turning lemons into lemonade has something to be said for it. But I haven't offered my own honour roll of little beauts - they are: Trinidad Coloniales, Bolivar and, the Empress of the Elves, Por Larranaga. Also, a question for other mutliple daily indulgers (I know you're there): How do you regulate or arrange your day's allotment of shameless gratification? Do you vary your menu, as I do, or stick with the same pal like Winston Churchill, George Burns and Mark Twain did? (And should this be a new thread?)
Colt45 Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Quite the dilemma. I suppose the most straightforward remedy would be to take another job..........
