CaptainQuintero Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Just wondering if anyone has much experience in the newer cigars (the non-Cubans). They seem more expensive than most Cubans so there must be a reason for their price, or it it purely living off the brand name from the time they were produced in Cuba?
bc8436 Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 I've smoked a decent amount of Davidoffs as a couple of my friends who are casual smokers adore the brand. I enjoyed the Double R, Puro d'Oro and Grand Crus, but they are way overpriced in my opinion. If I had to spend $20+ for a NC, I'd rather go with OpusX or Padron.

Puros Y Vino Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Very good, very expensive. Lost its' cache' long ago.
sblevit Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Not much of a fan. They are generally too mild for me, too floral and they are so overpriced. However, in 2008 they came out with a cigar called the Reserva 12 that was made from 12 yr aged tobacco and that was one of the best NCs I've ever smoked. I lament the fact that I only got the one box and now they are all gone. So a single here and there is worth a try to see if they come up with a winner.
Stalebread Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 I've tried several Davidoff cigars and always thought the Millennium Blend Lonsdale was a pretty good cigar but was not impressed by the others. A couple of years ago I received as a gift a Zino Platinum Crown Special Chubby or something like that. As I recall, it was an outstanding smoke but when I checked the price it was around $35.00 a pop.
thechenman Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 I've smoked several different non-Cuban Davidoff cigars over the years (sadly never a Cuban Davidoff). Quite honestly I've never been impressed. I think the cigars live off their reputation. They are attractive looking cigars, but for what they offer, I definitely think they are overpriced. It could also be that I am not a huge fan of Kelner. While he does blend some decent cigars that I have enjoyed like the AVO XO or Campanero, most by far fall short of what I am looking for. My recommendation would be to stay away from them, there are so many much better cigars at that price point, and even lower.
MadMax Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 The Garcia's of My Father are making them a new cigar 5.5x52 Belicoso that will be available only in the NYC stores. Next time I go into the city I'm going to pick a few up and give them a try. They say the cost is $7 a stick!

They're definitely not terrible, but more flavor and taste imho can be found in much cheaper NC smokes.
duwan Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I have probably smoked half a dozen or so Davidoffs. In my opinion, they are a good cigar, but not worth the price they demand. If I am going to pay $20 + for a cigar, I will choose a Padron each and every time.
