Hello Everyone.

I'm Stefan, 25 years old, well 26 tomorrow ;) and I smoked cigarettes since I was 14. I always loved them, never wanted to quit, enjoyed every aspect of it. And I have this character trait, the more people talk of how nasty, dirty, unhealthy and terrible smoking is, the more I enjoy it.

I didn't have a lot of experience with proper Cigars, a Cohiba here and there, mostly in night clubs (in Serbia you can still smoke anywhere you want) but nothing serious. Now, I moved to Sydney this october and I don't know what it is but cigarettes here are terrible. And there's no Marlboro 100's which is my cigarette of choice since I was a little kid. That combined with the fact that there's no place you can smoke indoors except your own home got me thinking how maybe it's time to do something about this habit of mine. I am a firm believer of having to adopt when you move somewhere else. I hate it when people, Serbs for example since I know them the best, being one myself, come to Australia from Serbia and then talk how Australia sucks because of this and that and Serbia has this and that that's so much better. It's insulting to Australians and at the end of the day, no one is forcing anyone to stay here.

So as I was saying I was thinking of my options, what to change. To just quit smoking was not an option, I love it way to much. So Cuban Cigars came to my mind. I decided to try them out properly this time (sober). Yesterday I went to one shop in Sydney, told them I'm a newbie and asked them to recommend me a cigar or two. They gave me Montecristo No 5 and Dunhill Petit Corona. I got home, smoked one in the afternoon and the other in the evening, that was last night.

Now, while I was smoking them, it tasted nice, I think I preferred to be honest the Dunhil one more but maybe that's just because it's fresher in my mind. Anyway, while I was smoking them, it tasted nice, it was a pleasant smoke but when I lighted up a regular cigarette after those two Cigars, damn. I instantly new I was done with cigarettes, over. It's just not comparable.

So here I am now, reading about Cigars and soon it will be the first 24 hours I spent without cigarette in god knows how long. I'm going cold turkey and starting fresh with Cigars, at least that's the plan.

And the funny thing is it compared to cigarettes, cigars are so cheap when you live in Australia. In Serbia for one Montecristo no 4 you can buy something like 15-16 packs of Marlboro, here they are almost the same price.

So for now I know that although I thought that the Montecristo no 5 size of cigar would be good enough for me, it's not. I'll prefer something bigger (that's what she said). I wanna order a box of Monte No 4 and I have a question. How much would you pay import tax on a box of Montecristo No 4, does anyone know?

I know exactly what you mean about the cigarettes there... It's like they make them especially bad so people will quit. And yeah - the Marlboros taste completely different.

Anyway, good luck with your quitting, shouldn't be too difficult in Australia. For me it's almost impossible, as smoking is also allowed EVERYWHERE here.. Even in my office! ;)

Welcome to FoH Stefan. Enjoy the forum. There are many here that have made the transition from cigarettes to cigars. As for pricing, I would suggest contacting our hosts Cigar Czar. Shoot Lisa or El Presidente an e-mail or PM. As you are in Australia (Brisbane to be exact), they can probably do the most for you. Take care and good luck.
