Peter11216 Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 The pattern of choices this time around is similar to last. However, the most frequent choice was correct, unlike last time when PLPC came out as the plurality choice. Sixteen people correctly identified the second stick. The PSD4, Monte Open, and Cohiba Robusto were popular choices, too. Coming in at 7, 7, and 6 respectively, 20 people chose one of these sticks as opposed to the correct choice. Only one person remains in the running for the total prize while, 22 (or 23, sorry forgot count), are in the running for identifying at least two. Here's a picture of results by Marca, Best, Pete
Dbone Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 It is a little ironic to see just how much better the expected flavor profiles are accurately chosen for the "over produced" Robusto. While Petit Corona was like throwing crap on the wall to see what sticks, and not much stuck. To an outside observer such as myself, your spreadsheets would lead me to believe the PC are more inconsistent than the Robusto vitola. Or possibly even deeper into the rabbit hole, to say the Siglo II is more inconsistent than the HdM Epi 2. Although, I think the early harshness of the Siglo II threw the pool for the PC.
cigaraholic Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 For me the flavor profile of the Siglo II was fine. It was an extremely creamy cigar, perhaps if I smoked more Cohiba's I might have guessed it instead of Bolivar. But when I found out it was a Cohiba I had no problem believing it. The Hoyo was a different story, I knew it was was a Hoyo. Mine was 52 ring gauge, no way box pressed cigar. So it had to be a Hoyo or a JL #2. I've been smoking lots of JL #1 recently and knew it wasn't close to JL profile so Hoyo was left. Problem for me was the cigar was so bad I couldn't believe Hoyo would put out such a wet cardboard dog rocket. If that had been my introduction to Cuban cigars it would have been my last, so my heart said no way it's a Hoyo....what's the worst cigar you can think of.
CBL Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 I think one of the most interesting things is that the 6 people that got the first cigar right all guessed different cigars for the second round. We probably just got lucky the first round
dicko Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 You know its good when 6 people thought it was a monte open
PigFish Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 While it would require some interpretation of reviews, I had considered reading and rating them by taste just to see how many folks thought they got a good cigar verses a bad one. You know Pete... I have often thought of doing this with the cigars mentioned on the Daily Smoke thread. I am pretty busy today with some home projects but perhaps we should corroborate on a project that rated these cigars... Just for kicks. -Piggy
Peter11216 Posted April 26, 2011 Author Posted April 26, 2011 I think that would be an interesting project. However, I've also been thinking of setting up a new kind of "rating" system, simply based on word counts. For example, there's a fun little program which produces a graph such that word size corresponds to word frequency in a corpus of text. For example I took all the reviews on the Czar site for the Cohibas, and put them through the wordle app. The bigger the word, the more frequently it occurs. A picture like this presents one view of the Cohiba brand. However, we could do something similar with different, and simple, statistical techniques. Taking all the reviews of one particular stick might also yield interesting pictures, and an interesting way of "rating" cigars. For the Cohiba brand, the Czar seems to used the words "full bodied" and "coffee" most often.
