I love beers from Unibroue brewers up here in Quebec. They are brewed in Chambly, about 2 hours away from my house.

Blanche/Blonde de Chambly, Fin du Monde, Maudite are all good beers.

EDIT* Don't know if I can post a link, sorry if it's forbidden, I'll remove it: www.unibroue.com

Another beer that is pretty good is from a local brewery in Westchester County just north of NYC. It's Captain Lawrence located in Pleasantville, NY. They brew some pretty tasty beers as well for summer drinking.

I like IPA's with cigars I perceive as having bitter tastes. I think that the IPA attenuates the bitter so that you can get other flavours in the cigar that are harder to perceive otherwise.

My favorite IPA is made by the 21st Amendment Brewery. Perhaps surprisingly it comes in a can. I can only imagine that this turns some people off, but the company makes a convincing case that cans keep beer fresher. I'm turned around on the can-bottle thing, now.

"Ten Fidy" from Longmont CO is a tasty stout that comes only in cans. Low carbonation, which is a plus for me. The name I assume is "ghetto" for it's 10.5% APV.

heavier, spicier beers during the colder (or should I say "cooler" being in FL) months...never been TOO hoppy crazy

lighter beers during the summer...but not the watery ones like Bud Light/Coors Light, etc

never had a beer that did not taste good with a cigar...but a lot of times during the winter it's bourbon and ginger ale and during the summer it's gin and tonic, vodka and lemonade, etc

Capt. Lawrence makes some really good beers. Smoke from the Oak is awesome.

Chimay, blue and Red, really into MOA a Kiwi brew at the minute, Duvel, Hoegarden. I love cider but cannot get it here ,Pelforth is a favourite but again struggle to find it here and of course every Brits favourite, wife beater or Stella as its commericialy known and mostly I suppose Tiger draught

hey mate i have a magnum of Moa St Josephs waiting for me... don't know if you've tried that one it's my favourite because the belgian richness is big enough to flavour the sourness of the bubbles(with a great 7%alcohol kick, add that to the champagne style bubbles and it hits you pretty quick!).

might try a cigar with it although it don't strike me as a match made in heaven.

can see how ice cold methode traditionnelle style beers would go down nicely in vietnam weather! enjoy.

An ice cold Bud. Now please don't throw anything at me.

I work of an A-B wholesaler, so see how i feel...

At least we sell Tallgrass... I love me some Oasis!

btw after a few years of drinking my friend's home-brewed beer.... beer snobbery is just stupid... you can make just about anything in your backyard and be as good or better.

Prefer ales and stouts with cigars. DFH 120 is an ipa that I do like with a cigar.

Recently had a bottle of Gulden Drak aged for a year. It was awesome with a cigar. Unbelievably creamy and complex fruit flavor.

Thanks a bunch. I'll look for that one. I agree about the carbonation, but I also prefer lower alcohol content, too. It doesn't exactly make sense to me. My guess is that companies brew higher alcohol because it sells better. I have my doubts that it is necessary for taste and flavour.

Best,

Pete

I love the irony in your post since you work for the King of Marketers.

St. Bernardus abt 12

Guinness

Samuel Adams Noble Pils

Samuel Adams Boston Lager

Yuengling Lager

Straight to Ale Monkeynaut

Straight to Ale Unobtanium

Abita TURBODOG

Tucher Kristall Weizen

Those would be in my normal rotation and all go exceptionally well with just about any cigar (though the Straight to Ale Unobtanium will overpower anything other than a medium-strong cigar. It is perfect with a Boli Coronas Extra).

To your health!

Ok. as much as I like to have rum and white lemonade with my cigars, 9 times out of 10 i drink beer or stout with my cigars...

Ive never been a big spirit drinker, even though Im irish lol, for me a strong whiskey or cognac competes with the cigars flavours too much... So i love a nice cold pint of beer with my smoke, for me it actually enhances flavour.

My beer of choice in an italian lager called Peroni (5.1%), it has a very distinct flavour and is fantastic with any cigar. Hoegaarden is another beer that goes well, and a pint of guiness with a cigar is a match made in heaven.

So if any folks primarily drink beer with your cigars what is your usual tipple?

Thanks

Hi Steve.

I must agree with you with the Peroni, that is indeed my beer of choice also with a cigar. I find it has a light, crisp, fresh flavor that does not over power the taste buds and you can in turn, enjoy the cigar.

Another is the Hoegaarden, Crystal beer from Chile and I don't mind the Kingfisher either from India.

Mostly drink hoppy beers when I smoke. Like Dogfish Head 90 min, Stone Arrogant Bastard, Beer Republic Racer 5, and any other hoppy Micro brew I can get my hand on. Most of the beers listed I brew myself I brew a clone batch.

I believe I've only tried a stout that Goose Island puts out, but it didn't rank up there for me. You have any particular suggestions that I should check out?

Yes their IPA is great!

Jorge...I'll be sure to pick up a bottle the next time I see it. Thanks for the recommendation.

I've found that barrel-aged beers pair particularly well with cigars, most notably sours and stouts. Stouts more to enhance/complement the flavor of the stogie (better enjoyed on cool evenings), and sours more to freshen up the palette (much like champagne) during the warm summer months.

Good call! Unibroue makes a lot of great beers. I'm particularly fond of their Raftman beer, but its become very difficult to find around my area.

I'm a big fan of a pint of Guinness with cigars when I'm in at home in Ireland - if I'm abroad, or at home it's bottles of Guinness Extra Stout, Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, or hoppy beers/IPA's - Sam Adams, O'Hara's IPA, Dogfish Head, Sierra Nevada Torpedo...
