Dbone Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I'm interested to hear from members here which boxes / cigars you have in your collection that are not approachable yet. Which ones have you given up on and are aging in hopes of some sort of rebirth or just ones with odd flavor profiles you hope become more defined. Or maybe none, all yours are ready to smoke now. I'll start by saying I have three right now that are locked up for at least another year: Vegas Robaina Unicos MOA FEB 09 This box has huge aroma and wrappers that are very oily, yet produce very dull flavor. They just wont give it up. Rest for 12 months and revisit Bolivar Petit Belicosos OPM JUL 09 Same as the VR Unicos. Lovely aroma and wrappers, but very dull with a light hint of chocolate but just not giving up any goodness. Rest for 12 months and revisit Punch Punch BLP DIC 07 Literally not smokable. Metallic / mineral bitterness just makes me sick. Rest for as long as possible LOL
Habanakane21 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I'm with you on the Punch Punch, I have that exact box code. I try one every 6 months...just not doing it for me. SRL Serie A ENE10...some tight draws in a few, very dull flavors at the start...flavors pick up only in the middle the hot at the end. Stubborn things.
kcheek Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I have a 2010 box of BRC's that have great flavor, but are brutally strong. Reminds me of the aged Cohiba Siglo 2 review by Rob, Smithy, and Ken. I would imagine 5yrs from now they will be a real treat. Odds are though they won't last that long.
CBL Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Sir Winstons from '02. Bought them in 2008 to celebrate that I had moved to Taiwan for college. Smoked half of the cabinet but they were pretty flat tasting (kept smoking them because it was all I had in my humidor ) I have 5 or 6 left resting in their cab. I try one every year in the hopes that the last one will blow my mind. Nothing yet so far
JY0 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 '98 La Flor de Cano Selecto's. No matter how hard I draw I can't get much smoke out of them.

I heard the same thing from another brother who enjoyed the 2010 BRC very much but said to young at the moment. I'm with you on the Punch Punch, I have that exact box code. I try one every 6 months...just not doing it for me. You know what had always bothered me with my box besides the smoke itself, the box does not smell musty (like most all other cuban cigars). It has a strong smell light cedar, almost tree like.
thechenman Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Guantanamera Cristales...not sure these babies are ever going to come around...hahahaha!
lancerv43 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 All of them I have such a limited supply I don't want to smoke any till I get some more I will just stick with the nc for now, hopefully acquire a box of cc's in the near future.
josie67 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 2006 Ramon Allones Estupendo regional in a cab of 50 down to the last 7 and only ONE so far that wasn't plugged. By far the most disappointing box of cigars I have ever smoked.
cigcars Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I have some Juan Lopez Swiss Regional lonsdale sizes that are unfortunately a little devoid of any flavor. Got 'em in a 5pack. There are one or two left after I gave 2 of them away.
jwm8592 Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Cohiba Piramides EL 2006 ROA OCT 06, I have smoked (2) of these since November 2007 and have had absolutely no luck w/them. Flavor-less is putting it mildly. But looking on the bright side, its about time to have another go at them. RA Small Club Coronas LRE ENE 10, I know these are young but I recently smoked one...man it was no where near ready for the torch. Being that this was my first experience w/the RASCC...perhaps some can enlighten me as to approx. how much age you would recommend for these smokes. Cohiba Siglo VI MEL FEB 08, not sure whether these are just not yet ready or whether they're just a bad cigar as I have read some on the forum describe. But either way they will be in a resting state in hopes of a brighter future.

Not a 2010 box, but here is a brothers review of an 08 box that needs rest. RASCC Review
CBL Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 My box of '08 RASCC has been smoking beautifully and I have a NOV '10 box and I've smoked one ROTT that was harsh and very strong and one a week later that I smoked to the nub. Still pretty strong, but delicious non the less. I'd recommend 2 or 3 years for these to even out nicely, but I enjoy the little bite that it gives when young.
pocket9s Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Por Larranaga Robustos de Larranaga RE EMA OCT 07. So far I've only smoked 2 of these and both times were within the last month. They just aren't doing anything for me. I'm no PL expert but they taste nothing like the usual PL profile I've noticed in the PLPC's. These are just flat and muted. I've heard that these needed a lot of time....

jawofboston Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 I have an old box of Upmann PCs that could be used as shrapnel. You could have an aneurism trying to get smoke out of these things.
Habanos2000 Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 I've a couple boxes of PSD4's from 09 that are waaaaay down at the bottom of my coolerdor. I've tested one box after 3 months, 4 months, and 6 months and they're just not "there" yet. Maybe will try again in September.

When you say they're not there yet, do you mean in harshness or lack of flavor / complexity?
