I a large part depends on your long term interest in smoking cigars. I have smoked cigars for almost 30 years now and hopefully the last one I smoke will be on the day I die! I think it also has a lot to do with you position on the direction of cigar smoking as it pertains to the society in which you live, your disposable income and your interest in cigar trends.

I don't collect cigars or deliberately age cigars. I hoard cigars! I hoard cigars for harder times, for the sake of being relatively immune to stupid trendy executive decisions, and just to have the ones that I like when I want to smoke one. I store cigars dryer than most and that includes retailers, as I like the delicate refined taste of dryer tobacco. I like having cigars ready to smoke at all times. Having adequate storage also allows one to stock up during times of plenty or when a good deal comes around. I remember when Rob got a bunch of PCC's coronas when they were blowing them out. It is at times like those that it is nice to be able to afford and store your favorite cigars.

Based on my habits and interests I would buy large refrigerated storage.

Do you like fresh cigars? Do you like them relatively moist? Do you like them fat and trendy? If that described me, well I would be happy with one or two hundred cigars of the various that I preferred and leave the storage issue with the retailer. But since that does not describe me at all... I guess that I am doomed to having to store my own cigars in the sizes, quantities and acclimatized to my liking because no one else is going to do it for me!

I did not vote above. This is how I feel about cigar storage for anyone interested. -Piggy

Hey I got the questions right! I rotate my boxes around every few weeks. More or less to remind my self what I have and what I'm looking to purchase next. My cabinet holds around 50 boxes and right now I have around 45...so I'm almost at capacity.

*When I get my own dream home with plenty of room I will get the large walk-in or huge glass door humi-walk up. Until then it's desk top size that all brands, singles and various sizes will squeeze into. I have about 30 of those now - stacked ontop of each other right now.

I could live quite happily with a big converted wine fridge. Keep all the cigars in the original box and store them by Marca.

I like the visual of seeing boxes..occasionally talking to them

I started out with a couple desk tops, added a couple of coolers, moved up to a end table size cabinet, added a tower cabinet and finally got smart.

Last year I picked up a 350 bottle wine cellar on ebay, added a new cooling unit (also controls humidity fairly well) and now I have storage for hundreds of boxes or 6-8 bodies.

I wish I had went this route when I first started out.

Ditto...my little 28 bottle Edgestar cost $200USD, holds a ton of cigars and keeps the temp perfectly at 58 degrees. For a little more money there's even guys out there who will make custom Spanish cedar drawers and shelves for it.

Sometimes I open the wine fridge door and sit in front of it and stare. And, it stares back at me. It's a pretty simple, low maintenance love affair. Like a kid and his toys.

Would love a big ass cabinet like many here. I would definitely put glass doors on it and have a light in it. Like a big f'n shrine.....LOL!!!!! But since my collection pushes only around the neighborhood of 25 boxes, don't know if I would ever need to go that big. A result of factors such as smoking rate, space, and of course moola. Perhaps if I win the lotto.

I have a 34 bottle Vinotemp wine cellar that I have been very happy with. I have 6 spainish cedar trays in it, which hold my loose cigars and I have shelves in the upper half which holds my boxed cigars. My humidifier is crystal kitty liter, which keeps it at a constant 65%

So far several humidors, and end table unit and a coolidor...looking to add another coolidor. One day I hope to have a cabinet humidor, or even better a small walk in if I could get my wife to agree to it. Hahahaha.

I have entertained so many ideas; from rationing schemes to fashioned opulence; from protection against fire, theft, teenage curiosity, and acts of God. The essential design idea is ease of access, with the resounding need for protection from atmospheric fluctuations.

The idea I have been entertaining more than all others is a drawer system layered 3 deep, which would allow me to evenly distribute the collection across future years. Something like the Siglo humidor, but taller than it is wider. It would eliminate the need to audit and keep me from disturbing the part remaining for aging. It would remove the possibility of me forgetting about certain items in the back of the cabinet or at the bottom of the box. Everything would be fair play in due time. I could incorporate new stock as it arrives and intertwine it with the plated fare over the course of each year.

I have 3 desktop humidors of various sizes (50, 100, 150) and 2 Igloo coolerdors. It's a fuss sometimes trying to find a particular cigar I want, not to mention having to remember adding water to the beads/gel in so many humidors.

So finally, I decided to order a nice humidor for myself and got a 1000 count from Avallo. They have this automated humidifying device which is nice, and they also make temp-controlled ones for those that live in a warmer climate. I'll probably end up keeping the coolerdors though since they're extremely easy to maintain.

I picked up a used 280 bottle vinotemp for $100 (the cooler did not work). The interior is made of redwood and designed to keep everything at a 50% humidity - pretty easy to keep it at 65% with beads. The only hard part was that it took almost a month to season it. I run a small computer fan constantly and it has an overhead light that comes on when I open the door.

This year is the year I build my megador. I would like to have a general consensus of style that people prefer.

I vote for coolers

There's no way to go now but the walk-in way. I'm fighting a losing battle with available storing space.

I completely agree. This is the way to go if you can. I ended up doing this to my hall closet. Now if I could only do this to one of my bedrooms... Hmmmm :D

If you do build a megador, I would suggest using glass so you can look at them in there. Also, keep them in the original boxes. Good luck to you. These are awesome projects.

Good idea picking up a wine cooler with a bad cooling system! I'll have to scour craigslist. (That doesn't sound right.)

Started with one desktop then added another. Then added a vino and three coolidors. Now I'm three weeks away from receiving my 100+box custom Aristocrat. I like having the desktops as they make beautiful decorations but wish I had just skipped the vino and coolidors and went straight for the Aristocrat. I'm worried that 100 boxes isn't going to be enough. . .

I started with a little 250 count chest and a few 20 count boxes. Then I added one of these.

Emperor humi

I have spoken with someone over at Aristocrat about insulating it for cooling since they are in my area, and hopefully that conversion will happen soon.

I use a Cigar Oasis II Ultra Deluxe to keep things properly moist.

Cheers, Kevin

This is exactly what I thought too. Low and behold, it wasn't enough room and I ordered an Aristocrat that holds about 180 boxes. Love the humidor though. A work of art!
