OZCUBAN Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Hi All I thought i would share this with you as all you seem to get or here on the News is negative press ,it to me kind of defines why these guys and girls do what they do and with such commitment Cheers OZ This is a Chief Master Sergeant in the USAF serving in Afghanistan As high as you can go in enlisted ranks (E-9) Wouldn't it be fitting if this went completely around the world! John Gebhardt's wife, Mindy, said that this little girl's entire family was executed. The insurgents intended to execute the little girl also, and shot her in the head...but they failed to kill her. She was cared for in John 's hospital and is healing up, but continues to cry and moan. The nurses said John is the only one who seems to calm her down, so John has spent the last four nights holding her while they both slept in that chair. The girl is coming along with her healing. He is a real Star of the war, and represents what the combined service is trying to do. This, my friends, is worth sharing. Go for it!! You'll never see things like this in the news. Please keep this going. Nothing will happen if you don't, but the world needs to see pictures like this and needs to realise that what we're doing over there is making a difference. Even if it is just one little girl at a time.
snickers99 Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Testimony to the basic decency of the American people.
laficion Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Fantastic Photo and story. Not much to add on this one OZ, you've said it perfectly. Thank you Bro.
coneatty Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Heartwrenching and heartwarming at the same time. Thanks for that, Oz.
mrmighty Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Thanks for sharing! Too bad that our media is so biased that you almost certainly won't find this story in the news. Thanks again!
sandholm Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 This is a heart warming story, but you should not believe everything you read... Wouldn't it be fitting if this went completely around the world! Well, it did...in 2006, so its not much of a new story. John Gebhardt's wife, Mindy, said that this little girl's entire family was executed. The insurgents intended to execute the little girl also, and shot her in the head...but they failed to kill her. This is true, her family were shoot by insurgents, but nothing in the story says if the intended to kill her, but lets go with the Harry Potter theme. She was cared for in John 's hospital and is healing up, but continues to cry and moan. The nurses said John is the only one who seems to calm her down, so John has spent the last four nights holding her while they both slept in that chair. The girl is coming along with her healing. Well, this is not 100% true, according to the source himself: "Gebhardt, who had been assigned to the 332nd Air Expeditionary Medical Group in the Balad hospital, said he saw the child acting fussy and restless in her crib one day and figured she just needed some human contact. So he picked her up and started comforting her. He was unaware that a nurse had snapped the photo until the nurse sent it to him. The girl never spoke to him, Gebhardt said. Her eyes were always glazed. She appeared to be coming out of a sleep, he said. But he thinks holding her helped. All he knows for certain about her is that she eventually was released to a surviving family member after he had returned to McConnell." He is a real Star of the war, and represents what the combined service is trying to do.This, my friends, is worth sharing. Go for it!! You'll never see things like this in the news. We did, or at least the once who read the news in 2006. I even remember the image and story printed in several Swiss news papers. Personal i really admire him, and personal I wish that every single person on the world would be like Gebhardt, he should have the full credit for this. The problem is when people dont act like Gebhardt. Personal I would rather see no news about human prisoner pyramids then one human soldier helping a defenseless child. My thought go out to the girl, I hope she is still alive and well. My thoughts also goes out to Gebhardt who remained human in a horrible war. Thanks for sharing! Too bad that our media is so biased that you almost certainly won't find this story in the news. Thanks again! No problem, just check your 2006 news... for example it can be found at fox, CNN and BBC. Several of the major television stations had first hand interviews with him (just use google). I personal believe that it has started to circulate on the internet again, which several modified text, in order to create a situation that makes the news reporting look biased. cheers
