Apologies for not having the exact month code.

Construction: Somewhat hard overall, but nothing extreme.

Wrapper: Colorado in color, slightly leathery to the touch. Not much oil to speak of.

Pre - Light Aroma / Draw / Taste: Nice aroma of sweet barnyard and raisin. Draw on the tight side with a taste of light tobacco.

Draw / Burn / Smoke: Good draw and burn, very good smoke volume.

Taste: Initial draws are of "Bolivar leather" straight away, with smooth vanilla undertones. The vanilla sensation quickly gives way to earth, also

picking up notes of green chili. Medium plus in body, draw a bit firm, but plenty of smoke.

Ending the first third, it shows an earthy core, sprinkled with green chili, finishing in saddle leather. It's not especially smooth, but nor is it rough - it has

enough of a tannic backbone to let you know it's there.

Into the middle third, some of the leather and tannin slip away allowing it to become a little smoother, a lightly fruity finish which alternates with cedar.

By midpoint, all of the above flavors continue to develop and mingle, nothing dominant or out of balance. It has a medium richness but maintains a bite.

It begins to show a little more density / chocolaty richness, and while there is a bit of a tingle on the finish, it is not really a spicy cigar. Moving into the

final third, it continues to slowly grow in richness, while maintaining it's overall profile and balance. Some hints of amaretto, and now just a touch of

black pepper. No surprises, nothing out of place.

And so it finishes.

Score: Solid 91 - flavor, texture, balance - it delivers exactly what I expect from this cigar - nothing more, nothing less.

I need to get me some of these. I enjoy Bolivar, and the Corona format is perfect. I've read the CE is very representative of the Bolivar marca. Thanks for the review, Colt :lol3:

Thanks for the review Ross, I've got a POS feb 07 cab that I've just sampled a couple of fresh while I work on the 02's. When I get back to the States I'll have to dig one out.

Enjoyed the review Ross, the Bolivar Coronas Extra is a smoke that I find has kept

all of it's Bolivar flavors intact, flavors that i would call animal but with smoothness.

I enjoy the richness of the brand.

I also appreciate the Coronas Extra because it's ALMOST a Corona Gorda

I'm in the Viva Bolivar camp as well

I definitely feel these are quite representative of the marque, sharing traits with the Gigantes, PC, and Corona Junior.

It's good to hear that the various vintages are doing well.

Great review!!

Oddly enough, I smoked a Boli PC about two hours ago, and reading your review then thinking back about the PC I smoked, it was very much in line with your CE review. Having not smoked a CE in months, I don't quite remember how my CE's smoked but remember it being quite robust and as lafcion mentioned as being very rich. Perhaps I had an outstanding PC out of the box.

Colt, am wondering if you have at times found yourself smoking a PC and found it is quite similar to the CE, vice versa.

BTW, the last third of the PC's was simply outstanding.

Yes - as I mentioned, I personally find the CG, CE, PC, and CJ to share similar qualities, with perhaps the PC bringing a bit more intensity than

the rest. I've found the BF and RC to show less of that lineage overall, but have not smoked as many of those two as I have the others.

I'm revisiting this POS MAR 07 cab again tonight, and this CE has just a smoothness and richness I have not experienced with other Bolivars. Granted, the wrappers and aroma of this box I have not seen in other Bolis either. It leaves oil on your fingers :D

The aroma coming off the cigar is unreal. Hats off in a big way.

Great review Colt, I think that you have really nailed the description. I have POS 06s and 07s that I'm smoking now. The 06s are smoking exactly as yours. I have to mention that one of my boxes has cigars that burn particularly slow –about ninety minutes! They are densely rolled and still have a silky draw that has just the right amount of resistance. -P

I agree with this 100% Love the first 4 mentioned, but the RC & BF never impressed me & I don't own a single stick of either.
