Dbone Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 The Siglo II has become a regular in my stash. I fell into this just based on the vitola, Petite Corona. I'd like to expand on the these. Looking at rest of the Siglo line the next two vitolas which get my attention are the Siglo III, Siglo IV, and Siglo V. So, what's the good and bad on these suspects? I can't remember which one it was... thought it may have been the Siglo III, it was smooth and sweet, loved it. Thanks.
Puros Y Vino Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Siglo II's are great tasting cigars. I've had several Siglo I's and found them to be a lot stronger than the II's. I have some Siglo VI's which I have yet to try. If you want maximum effect in a shorter amount of time go for Siglo I's. Or even better. Trinidad Reyes. Same size and IMO it has more flavour range.
BolivarSmoker Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 The Siglo III is my favorite out of all six hands down. Love the size and I find it to have more cream than the rest of the bunch. They are quite tasty. I had Lisa send me an HQ box MEL 08 (can't remember factory code) and it is outstanding. If you get a good box you won't be let down.
Nocoins Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 If you're looking for the creamy, smooth, sweet honey-vanilla Siglo, then that's the III. I like them with about three years of box age. I'm smoking a MEL Feb 08 box right now, and they are delicious.
mbrody Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I like a little more pizazz in my siglos, and prefer the Sig I and Sig IV. The key is getting good boxes (like all). But honestly, if you are kind enough to give me a Siglo, I'd be happy with whatever you chose!
Dbone Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 Wow, thanks for the comments. It must have been the Siglo III I had then, creamy and sweet smooth. Different from the II. You like the Siglo IV mbrody, what's the pizazz... flavor punches?
mbrody Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Dbone, the Sig IV's I have some more mongrel in them - more spice/coffee/body to them. Reminds me of having a Mag 46 vs a Connie 1 or Mag 50. Maybe it is youth, but I like them. I find the Sig I even naughtier! That can be one little bomb when it is on! Personally, I like it more than the Trini Reyes.
CanuckSARTech Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 ...I had Lisa send me an HQ box MEL 08 (can't remember factory code) and it is outstanding... Bolivar, the "MEL" is actually the factory code. The "08" is the year, and after that, the only other thing missing is the month. But the MEL is a factory code, not the month.
docbp87 Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Surprised by the number of votes for the III. Never had them, but I was asking around among friends which siglo would offer the most creamy, light, but flavorful experience, and basically I was told to skip the III. Now I'm more interested than before. Love that size too.
Dbone Posted January 15, 2011 Author Posted January 15, 2011 Thanks brody, the Mag 46 is a fav of mine so the Siglo IV sounds to be on the short list. You and bund said the Siglo I is a little flavor bomb, nice... And like doc, I'd really like to check out the Siglo III. Good stuff all, thanks
mbrody Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Dbone, Although I enjoy the Sig IV, I will tell you that I do prefer the Mag46 and the JL1. If you would like to sample a Sig IV, I am open for trading for another CG (or anything honestly).
Puros Y Vino Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 The Siglo III really seems to be the hands on favourite here. Now I'm interested! Maybe its' time to visit the Trading Forum?
kyee Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 My favorites are the IV, I, and VI, in that order. The V is my least favorite.

Was typing the comment on my iPhone faster than my brain was thinking. Thanks for catching the error and the attempt at the education. Not going to weigh in on the Siglo disscusion?

Thanks for catching the error and the attempt at the education. Not going to weigh in on the Siglo disscusion? Noted, cool, thanks. Just thought I'd pipe that in with the code issue. Regarding the Siglos, no, I don't really have much of an opinion on them. I've had some of the VI's, but for the hype and price-point, they've always left me a wee bit unimpressed. I have a few tubos versions sitting in my singles drawer, and I'm hoping for better with them. But, with Cohiba, I've tended to stay in the Linea Classica more. I will say though that I do plan on buying a box of Siglo IV's soon, as everyone's recommendation of them seems spot on for what I'm looking for, and I do love that particular size/format. Not sure if that helps you any, dbone.

Thanks, I have a Siglo IV coming my way thanks to the kewlness that is Mbrody. The CG format is nice isn't it. Sig 1, sig 3 are my faves. sig 4's good too. I'm going to get down on those Siglo III's. I'll report back on both the III and IV. Thanks to everyone for your contributions to this thread.
bassman Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I love the Vs best, but wouldn't turn down any I to V. The VI is a little too fat for my liking. I have been told, but have no proof, that MEL was the El Laguito factory code in 2008. I have searched out boxes with that code. Haven't tried them all yet, but so far the best has been MEL SEP 08 Cohiba CEs.
mbrody Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 When Bassman recomends a year/code, search it out. His last reco I jumped on were Boli PC early 09 and they are AMAZING. PigFish Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I tend to gravitate to the S-3 for value reasons. I have had great Siglos and mediocre ones. When I smoke a Cohiba I go for Lanceros, CE's mostly.
tigger Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Probably because a particularly fine example was one of the 5 "best" cigars of my life, I lean toward the IV.
thechenman Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 My favorite Siglos are the II, III and I in that order; however, like Canuck, I prefer the Linea Classica. I'd rather have a CoRo or Esplendido. Oddly enough to some, I'm not a fan of the Cohiba Lancero.

thechenman Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 ... well stab me in the heart with a Lanceros, why don't you??? -LOL Sorry Piggy...not that I don't like lanceros per se. I do like a good Trini Fundadore, but the Cohiba Lanceros just haven't rocked my boat as yet. I'm still hoping though as there aren't nearly enough long and skinnies out there.
