sharks Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Hi All, Well just got back from Metallica's first Melbourne gig and all I can say is WOW! I'm not into a great deal of metal or heavy rock but these guys are true magicians and what a performance it was. Dont want to give anything away to anyone in Aus who is still going but the show was fantastic. Would easily be the best Rock Band I have seen ever. And yes it was LOUD!!! It was great to see the guys put so much feeling and passion into their performance. It was an interesting age group from say 7 year olds up to grandparents, and also some err lets say scary individuals lol. They played a wide range of material from all their albums and even after the encore they stayed on stage and spent time with their fans. To anyone going your in for a great time. Enjoy Sharks
Habanos2000 Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 I've seen them 3 times over the years, from being an opening act to headlining, and have never left disappointed, maybe a little deaf, but never disappointed.
bigfunkyg Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Big fan as well. I saw them in 2003 in support of the St. Anger tour and although the Album wasn't the greatest, the show blew me away. The played almost everything I could have asked them to and very little from the new Album. Probably my best concert. They were back earlier this year. Great show still but the show was very heavy of material off Death Magnetic. Still a great show but left me wanting much more.
Guest rob Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 May 9th, 1989 - Saw them in Sydney for the first time... and have never forgotten it. I miss the 'good ol days'
Wicky Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 All too true, Ride the Lightning! I'm glad to see they're keeping themselves busy although they are getting a bit long in the tooth. More power to 'em.
mkz Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 I used to be a huge fan, but after the Black Album I think they lost their way.
mbrody Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Honestly, my feeling is after Master of Puppets, they lost their way... Damn, now I know why Piggy is so pissed off about the "new" breed of Habanos!
CanuckSARTech Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I think they lost their way when they started messing up their lyrics.... ...Wait a minute!!!
MIKA27 Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Metallic are brilliant! My wife and I attended their latest show, world tour when it kicked off in Santiago Chile earlier this year. It was their only show as the crowds outside the concert went crazy and had riots, Molotovs etc at the police. Was a great show!!
dicko Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Saw them at the Big Day Out a few years ago, awesome stuff!!
michaelhealy Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Saw them at the Big Day Out a few years ago, awesome stuff!! i saw them on that tour as well. great show
Vetteman Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Not a big fan, but saw them at the Rock HoF concert last October at MSG. Enjoyed them andt heir set with Lou Reed was incredible.
ucla695 Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I'm a fan of all of their stuff before the black album. That said, I've been to quite a few Metallica shows thruout the years and they have always performed solidly!
investandprosper Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 Met James Hetfield when he stayed at a hotel I worked at. Brought his kids on vacation. Standup guy.
khomeinist Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 The documentary 'Some Kind of Monster' is good for a few laughs. Who knew Lars was such a tool? Seriously though... Kill em All is the best album. Once Dave Mustaine left the band, the song-writing went south in a hurry. One hessian's opinion. They were still good until the 'Black' abomination. Lol. Am very opinionated about Metal. Got me through growing up in a Mormon town!

(Though perhaps a touch more eloquent, philiosphocal and argumentative. ) Kill em all and Lightening got me through puberty! With a touch of Iron Maiden now and then for balance.

I am surely more full of crap. Iron Maiden. A bit of Slayer even. Cheap beer. Good times. I still like metal. Some irony is involved of course. Albums like Powerslave are still classic though.
Disburden Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Any Metallica after "...And Justice for All" just isn't good IMO, but I love Iron Maiden any day of the week and they continue to stay true to what they want to do with their music.
