Recommended Posts

I was to be filming in Sydney with ken Gargett for our new wine enterprise....but alas he can't make it :)

So I am free :cigar:

If any of our Sydney brethren would like to get together for a long lunch/drinks/cigars Friday afternoon/evening just drop me a line.

Should we just make you the host and ken the guest seeing that you picked the blind tasting episode? Seriously did you cheat? Did ken tell you what we had in the brown paper bags?

Either way I am stunned!

Elie....ken has taught me all I know when it comes to wine.

Less so in relation to fashion women and song !

I need to move to Australia...

The best way to do that is get 30 or 40 of your friends together and then find a rickety old wooden boat.

Sail on over and just before you get into Australian waters rip up all of your papers so there is no immediate proof of your identity.

Our navy will escort you in and after a short stay in 4star accommodation we'll give you free medical and set you up in a nice house of your own.

It works every time apparently .

Wait just a minute....

Didn't a bunch of Tamil Tiger "refugees" just try that a few months ago? And then Australia turned them away, and so they sailed up to BC, Canada??!!! And now we got stuck with them!!

Gawd, our government sucks.... :)

EDIT - Sorry for pasting this 3 times, fixed that.

Warning - I am ranting and raving here, so a very long and boring read. You have been warned!!! Truth and Fiction have been combined to have the story sound better than it really is.

Brief Recap of the night with Rob, Alex and Chris.

Called Rob on the Friday morning to find out the following:

- If he is awake (As Rob is known for his exceptional stamina and capacity for fun)

- Where is he staying (due to the above statement, he is also banned from a number of establishments)

- When he will be free to meetup

The call went to voicemail and I left my message.

Rob with his exceptional timing, decides to call me at the most inconvenient time.

I answered the phone and as it were, did not really pay a lot of attention. All I heard was free from 3pm, meet at Cohibar in Darling Harbour.

Checked in with Chris (Fuzz), he is going to be in the city around 6.30pm.

I had a meeting in the city anyways, so I was goign to meetup with Rob first.

Meeting was a disaster, went overboard and late. Did not finish the day till well after 5pm.

I went to Cohibar first, and could not see Rob. In my mind Rob was going "Where is everyone?" and left for somewhere else.

Then I see a someone that is dressed fairly conservative with a small travel luggage. I thought "Have the same haristyle but not really dressed like the Rob I know". As some of the forum members can attest, Rob have some edgy fashion style and not really know for carrying things.

But it was Rob, already on his new favorite drink - Gin and Tonic with a slice of cucumber.

Rob was gracious (as he is always) and said that he only finished working. As ever, he mentioned that he was working at Cohibar on his laptop for his meeting with the Australian Cigar Supplier. This meeting was setup by Samuel Spurr and Rob advised that he has a 45 minute presentation to complete.

Rob mentioned that he was going to be finishing up at around 10pm back at the hotel. So I naturally complained that last time, he had to a 'meeting' at 1am in the morning. Now 10pm. I think I mentioned something about what happened to fun Rob and slowing down with old age.

Share stories with Rob. Rob being Rob, he has a new story of hotel mishap.Rob have been banned from several hotels.....due to incidents....

Rob also confirmed that Ken is clinging to life with his fingernails with all his strength, though the Grim Reaper was trying to break him with the deadly pneumonia. Rob assured that Lisa is calling him twice a day and that Rob's personal doctor is on standby in case a quick race to Ken's place is required. I got to admit that Rob is a great and caring friend while you are down, though if you are recovered, fair game for all.

Alex (Blasio17) joined us a few moments later. Exchanged backgrounds, Alex is from England, very briefly on day to day jobs. Then onto how he first got into the cigars.

As the night gone on, quite a few drinks were had, stories shared. Fuzz finally decide to grace us with his hollywood presence (late) at 7.35pm.

Fuzz on the Left, Alex center and Rob on the right.

Later on, managed to get an introduction to the guys from Perdomo Cigars, nice fellows.

Alex advised that since he lives around the area (Pymont), he will take us to a nice Italian restaurant around the corner. Great food, excellent service, Friendships, Stories and 2 bottles of wine. Then found out Alex is only 23 years old!!!! Good god, made the rest of us feel like old farts that we are.

Alex then kindly invited us back to his apartment for more drinks and cigars. I don't think he realised what he got himself into.

A good example is when he fields a call from his lovely girlfriend that we are going back to his place to carry on. I think she has other plans for him.

Alex have a great apartment that have a clear view of the Harbour Bridge.

He pour wine for us, than his girlfriend Jess came by. Introductions were done much later after Alex smooth the ripples and made some assurances.

I made a quick mention that we are pushing our welcome. I think Pirate Captain then mentioned that I was a fool and we should stay as long as possible. Got have to admit as that point, Jack Sparrow, Fuzz and I looked like a bunch of rogues.

Jess and Alex finally joined us, and we played 20 questions with Alex. Due to the great age gaps between Generation Baby Boomers, Gen X and Y, I think that most of the time we were trying hard to freak the poor guy out. As the saying goes, "Youth and Enthusiasm Will Never Defeat Old Age And Treachery."

Rob finally called it a night/morning after his 3rd glass of Rum at 2.45am. We finally left Alex in peace and to make amends to his girlfriend.

Shared a taxi with Rob and went home at 3.30AM.

Great night.

Ranting? More like rambling! I know it's been a long time since you posted anything of length, and you did say it was going to be a long read, but did you have to type your tall tale three times over??

Let me know if you and Chris are in the city in the near future, will happily catch-up for a cigar
