scottmlaser Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Im want to buy a new lighter, at the moment im using a Zippo Blu which is useless. Constant returns to Zippo's european repair center and terrible reliability have forced me into buying another lighter. I have the Colibri Enterprise in mind any opions/reviews on this lighter or any recommedations of another lighter would be gratefully recieved my budget is £100/$170 AUD
daboose Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 The Colbri is a very nice lighter. I’ve been very happy with the Blazer Little Buddy Link. It’s not as “classy” looking but very functional. very easy flame adjustment single torch lots of fuel on/off flame lock can stand alone The only thing I didn’t like about it was the “child resistant mechanism.” However this can easily be disabled. My standby lighter is the inexpensive Ronson. Since either are inexpensive....more $'s for smokes. (I have a triple torch and it really goes through the fuel.)
samb Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 My b&m allows for "trade-ups" on xikar products. I recently traded in a genesis (that i had for years) to the pipeline (looks like the old boy) and would recommend this if youre looking for soft flame. Ive heard bad reviews of many colibri products.
bob25 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 +1 on Blazer Little Buddy. Great little lighter, does the job perfectly.
jawofboston Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Prometheus. Huge fan. Lifetime warranty. Let's face it - all lighters have a tendency to break at some point. You want to be able to send it back for repair.
anacostiakat Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I own a Lotus that I absolutely love. I have had it for years and it performs well. I also have a Porsche that I like and works well. I have heard the Xikar ones are nice lighters but I have no direct knowledge. Also you get a lifetime warranty.
JoshMP Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Another vote for the xikar range, they're not too expensive and have lots of different styles to choose from. Also lifetime warranty. For me the best thing about them is they are very simple; the couple of times mine has started to play up I've fixed it myself in a couple of minutes.
mkz Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 +1 on Blazer Little Buddy.Great little lighter, does the job perfectly. +2 Its perfect!
Wicky Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 +2Its perfect! +3 Just ordered a little buddy.(thanks daboose!) I like the flip top as opposed to the original cap and chain. Great reliable all purpose lighters. And you don't have to worry about throwing it in your pocket with your keys!
CanuckSARTech Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 ...Ive heard bad reviews of many colibri products. That appears to have been on some Colibri stuff, just before they went into bankruptcy/receivership a few years back. It seemed like the quality went down, when they were desperately looking for more finances. ...Lifetime warranty. Let's face it - all lighters have a tendency to break at some point. You want to be able to send it back for repair. So true. Therefore, my vote is for any that have a good exchange/warranty program. As such........
CanuckSARTech Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I have a Colibri Ambiance, in black lacquer with silver accents, and then I also have a Xikar Enigma lighter, in gunmetal finish. Both have excellent flames, nothing too excessive (single torches), and both have their differing ergonomics and asthetics, along with lifetime warranties. Paired up with some nice Xikar exotic cutters, they are all excellent and reliable tools of the trade.
El Presidente Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 We use to be a Colibri dealer well before they went broke. I can understand why they went broke I like Xikar product and Vector.
jacksfull Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 We use to be a Colibri dealer well before they went broke. I can understand why they went broke I like Xikar product and Vector. I've had so many Colibris over the years I can't count 'em all. Generally great looking lighters... that never failed to fail. I bet I'd have saved money over the long run if I'd just ponied up for a Dunhill in the first place. Don't know what happened to all those broken Colibris... I abandoned them a long time ago when my wife gave me a Blazer for my birthday. That Blazer is 10 or 12 years old now and still going strong. I added a Xikar Nautillus a couple of years ago for steppin' out. Never so much as a hiccup with either of those.
bolivr Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Given what I have heard about the quality and reliability of the 'fancy brands' I decided to get a couple of plastic fantastics for about $3 each. They work a treat, just refill em when needed and so I spent the money I saved on cigars

They work a treat, just refill em when needed and so I spent the money I saved on cigars LOL. Absolutely can't go wrong with that! Just as long as its not a standard Zippo, or a Bic-style lighter, you're good to go.
thechenman Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Blazers are nice...but they do go down. I've gone through a few of them, but for the price and quality, they are decent. You can't beat Xikar's warranty, and they make a decent product. If you want to go more upscale though, I think you could get an ST Dupont Maxijet with what you have budgeted for a ligher. I have one of those as well, and I think they work phenomenally well also. Aesthetically it is a good looking lighter as well.
BobLobLaw Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Another vote for Xikar. Great products that look nice, feel high quality and the customer service is TOP NOTCH. Every winter just before leaving on vacation (only take the cheap stuff on vacation b/c I do not check bags 99% of the time) I send my Xikar cutter and lighter back for sharpening and tuning. Although Xikar says they will repair and return your lighter the last 2 years I have gotten brand new products back. Its awesome. Plus the initial investment is quite reasonable.
mbrody Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Best Lighter I have owned: ST. Dupont XTEND Mini Worst Lighter: Colibri My Blazer came messed up. Never returned it. Hated the crap on it anyway. Xikar always eventually has failed me, but lasted longer than colibri. Stop screwing around and just get the ST Dupont.
sloth Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 i use a triple flame knock-off of the blazer called jetline or something like that. cheap and last a good while without maintenance. I also have a retired Colibri that had a bottle opener and a compass... both more useful than the flame... mine is retired now. -Culinary torches are handy for soft flames i have a Prince PRONA 61 Commemorative...
PigFish Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Lighters range for me from elegant to essential. I use many lighters but what I typically have in my pocket everyday is a Zippo with a torch insert. I run the torches kinda high and based on that they don't carry a lot of fuel. But they will last long enough for a day of herfing where they will serve double duty as your friends borrow your lighter and talk while holding it lit, ignoring the foot of their cigar! On the other hand I enjoy a fine lighter as I do a fine watch. I own several ST Dupont lighters and prefer the Chinese lacquer lighters but they are expensive if lost or stolen and get bruised badly of dropped. I had a Habanos Series Punch lighter stolen from me, it was my favorite and I have never really accepted the lost. That was a cool lighter! I like to use my Bond lighter when at home or the Extend, both which can be found on my Aristocrat. I use these four lighters regularly, depending on where I am going to smoke. My camera battery is dead. I may post my lighter brigade later! -
n2advnture Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 I love my Blazer PB-207 and ST Dupont Xtend! Agreed. Two best lighters I've owned as well as the ST Dupont Ligne 2s. The new Siglo Bean Shaped lighter and mini Jet torches are promising though!
CanuckSARTech Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Actually, this thread is a good help. I've been thinking for a long while about getting a nice table lighter - something elegant to sit on top of my cabinet humidor, and to use nicely on the table on the back deck. I was looking at the simplified Colibri table lighter (a black laquered square - fairly simple); I was also eye-popped by the Vector tri-pump table lighter, the one in the gloss black and chrome finish. But, I also like elegant wood finishes also. Not a wood laminate or applique, but actual wood. I've got a number of the Xikar cutters in the wood (beech, redwood, amboina burl, as well as the tech [rubber], and carbon fiber ones) - the amboina burl wood one is my favourite. Any suggestions, gents? Pictures welcomed.
PigFish Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 These are my regular lighters. I like them all, all torches except the traditional Dupont. I have a couple more Harley Zippos in the condition "lost" here and there. When I find one it is like Christmas. I really think a Zippo with a torch insert is the way to go.
