bunburyist Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Cake! Finally I can taste something you guys can. Christmas cake all over for me....have to say I like these
sandholm Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Great review, nice to see you back Warren sounds interesting, have to get some sticks and try them, as for the name, shame Habanos shame
mkz Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Great review, but I´ll know that these will never find their way to any of my humidors... Why? RyJ Fails to impress me over and over again and I find the ring gauge of this cigar ridicilous. However Im having some hope for the other RyJ release this year aka the skinny "girl" cigar. When can we expect these Prez?

When can we expect these Prez? Mate, I smoked one of those not long ago. Great little cigar. A fire cracker I suppose you could call it. Couldn't think of anything less-girly than this cigar. Apparently Czar is getting them very soon.
Warren Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 "It's not masterchef" haha great call Put a cravat on Rob and you have Mat Preston.
Colt45 Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 "It's not masterchef" haha great call The roast lamb and garlic made me think of Miles from the movie Sideways Thanks for the review. The cigar sounds nice, but I don't think I can get past the girth.
Disburden Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Awesome, I was dying for a new review. I can't wait to get home from work so I can watch it.
mhartnett Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 After watching the review, I can't shake the feeling that this got a 90 because there wasn't anything to complain about, rather than because there was anything to rave about.

No I think the rating we gave it was fair. It was a cigar that started out ok but just surprised as it went along. Even the ring gauge which has had some criticism I believed worked for this cigar. To me it didn't feel too big, I really didn't notice that it was a thick cigar.
Colt45 Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 .......Not the cheese... " Exactly! "just a flutter..."
El Presidente Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 After watching the review, I can't shake the feeling that this got a 90 because there wasn't anything to complain about, rather than because there was anything to rave about. Construction....Tick Wrapper..........Tick Draw.....Tick Complexity.....Tick Depth of flavours...tick Kept you interested....tick. Highly enjoyable....tick. Spot on 90.
asmith Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 RyJ Fails to impress me over and over again and I find the ring gauge of this cigar ridicilous. I agree with you about R&J they fail to impress regularly, but this cigar surprised me and it is well worth picking up one or two just to try. I think you will be surprised, I was.
Habanakane21 Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Thanks for the great review. Like most members I really look forward to the "sit downs". Always very honest.
Disburden Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Are these going to be on the czar soon? I am curious for one.

Marto316 Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 ive got to say, i do like the wide churchill, this has become my every other day cigar now. i have found that the Wide and indeed the Short Churchills tast very different with various drinks. try a wide with a few glasses of Glenmorangie. VERY NICE . Id like to say good work with the forum and i love the reviews guys.
SteveGriff Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Smoked one a few weeks ago and didn't impress me one bit. Way too large a ring gauge. And the draw was a little too free for me. The Short Churchill's are much better. Wide churchills are bigger for what exact reason? Steve

The Short Churchill's are much better. Wide churchills are bigger for what exact reason? Steve My view exactly. I'm half way through my first of these now and I'm not impressed at all. The cakiness is there but it's marred by a dominant bitterness, like floral gone sour. As if that wasn't enough, the wrapper is unravelling. Bye, bye, WC...
El Presidente Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 My view exactly. I'm half way through my first of these now and I'm not impressed at all. The cakiness is there but it's marred by a dominant bitterness, like floral gone sour. As if that wasn't enough, the wrapper is unravelling. Bye, bye, WC... There is no reason for this size. Obviously then it was a HSA priority I have now had a dozen from different boxes. 3 were 90+ most 88 with 4 less than 86. On that strike rate you would not persist but having said that you can increase the odds by really chasing ones with smooth, thin red wrappers and fruity aroma at cold.
