MIKA27 Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 Trust you to return to Perth and find something like that OZ! WTF!? Maybe underwater marine biologists will find use for it?
sandholm Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 You've got to be joking. If you can't find an app you need in the tens of thousand available for Android you're certainly not looking very hard. Android market only exist for the US.... and in the market most of them is games (or at least when i looked) the rest of your post I wont even replay to (but Windows 7.. i have it, I hate it... If you install a program C:/program files and you have a tutorial in that folder, you cant use the tutorial if you are not an administrator...WTF)
sandholm Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 what does your iphone do that other phones can't? One thing, INTEGRATION, everything work, you sync it to the computer and it works straight out of the box, the phone dont even need a manual. The phone as a fully integrated shop, with applications, music, video and books, again, one account do everything. Here is why apple is so much better then Android or any other system, they dont think what they can do instead they think about why they should do and how it should work. Look for example about multitasking, it took time but dame it works smooth.
gersonmorelli Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I've never tried a Blackberry, what are the features that you like about it. Basically its e-mailing capabilities (push and reliable server) and Blackberry Messenger. All other features are still better in iPhone.

I think its time for me to withdraw from the tech discussion on the cigar forum
mkz Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Wow! Is this thread still on?? I got a feeling it will soon be the victim of Godwin´s law... Now back to my precious droid......
DrunkenMonkey Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I think its time for me to withdraw from the tech discussion on the cigar forum Really? You think so?
reg Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Really? You think so? yeah, I'll give you a break since you're from ohio. I don't like kicking people when they're already down
DrunkenMonkey Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 yeah, I'll give you a break since you're from ohio. I don't like kicking people when they're already down You'll give me a break? What gives you the idea that I wanted you to stop? I've been entertained by the whole thread.
MIKA27 Posted June 15, 2010 Author Posted June 15, 2010 Wow! Is this thread still on??I got a feeling it will soon be the victim of Godwin´s law... Now back to my precious droid...... You know, I never anticipated such a huge response for this thread, it still prevails even though we have lost some of the original flavour of the question at hand, it has still turned into a debate of sorts and its really great to see how many of our members have opinions on the iPad both good and bad. Now all I'm waiting for as stated by mkz, is a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler (Goodwins law)

MIKA27 Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 Sydney restaurant replaces menus with iPads THE iPad is already a tasty product among gadget lovers, but a North Sydney restaurant has become the first in Australia to replace their printed menus with Apple's new touch screen device. Global Mundo Tapas in the North Sydney Rydges Hotel yesterday introduced a custom-made iPad application which allows customers to browse the virtual pages of the menu with a sweep of their finger. Diners can peruse the dishes and see a picture of what the dish looks like along with tasting notes before compiling their order and sending it wirelessly to the kitchen. The iPad menu can also suggest the best wines to go with certain dishes and suggest the best food pairings. When ordering steak, users can even specify how they'd like the meat cooked and which sauce they'd prefer. It will even ask them if they'd like fries with that. Mundo's iPad menu app can also help keep track of stock levels so if certain dishes and wines sell out they will automatically disappear off the on-screen menu. Craig Simpson, Rydges area general manager, says the new iPad platform will enhance the dining experience. "We have something that presents really well, sells our food really well and is absolutely dynamic," he said. Mr Simpson said the iPad menu would eventually make it possible to order food based on the weather or even match dishes to a person's mood. While the waiters and waitresses of the restaurant will still be required to take the food from the kitchen to the tables, the iPad will mean they will have to work a little harder for their tips.
MIKA27 Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 Apple beware: World's first iPad lookalike goes on sale - China's iPed APPLE might have sold two million of its new iPad tablet computers in less than two months, but it has a Chinese challenger - the identical looking iPed. Apple's iPad is not even on sale yet in China but the iPed can be bought in Shenzhen in the country's south for ¥713 ($126), almost a fifth of the price of the new Apple gadget. The world's first iPad lookalike runs on Google's Android operating system and is apparently powered by an Intel chip. Pictures of the iPed, filmed by Japanese TV news and posted on YouTube, show the gadget being sold in a Shenzhen computer mall in packaging that even looks like an iPad box. The change in vowel is seemingly the only major difference in appearance between the two computers. A review of the iPed on tech website TECHi says "the iPed is exactly what you're thinking: a Chinese knock-off". "The iPed is an Intel-driven, Android-based copycat packaged like an Apple product and, to be honest, it doesn't look half bad." Last week, Apple and its contract electronics manufacturer Foxconn refused to confirm or deny rumours that the iPad was being made at Foxconn's massive Shenzhen factory, which had been hit by a spate of staff suicides. Apple, now the largest US technology company by value, said yesterday it had sold two million iPads, outdoing even the iPhone on its launch. Last Friday, the flat, 25cm black tablet computer that Apple claimed would revolutionise the industry went on sale in Australia, Japan, Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland. Demand in the United States was so strong that the company pushed back the global rollout. It goes on sale in nine more countries in July, including Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Last week, Apple dethroned software giant Microsoft as the largest US technology company in terms of market value. Knock-offs of Apple's iPhone can also be bought in Hong Kong and Beijing for as little as $A40, according to the latest edition of Australian Personal Computer magazine. However the internal components are poor quality and many of the devices operate only on the slower GSM mobile networks. The knock-offs are mainly intended for sale within China where Apple does not yet have a major presence, according to the magazine. MIKA: Strangely no one has noticed that its a 7" screen not 9.7" and its all plastic not aluminium and glass like the real thing, no wonder its so cheap.

OZCUBAN Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 This thread has certainly taken on a life of its own It brings to the fore Apples "Lovers and Haters" I my self will go on the record for saying that I personally love apples products, since the late 80's,to me they always change the landscape in whatever they do They have redefined the way we do our computing ,listen to our favorite tunes, and now the iPhone /iPad. For those who are unaware the iPad was in development long before the phone came into existence, apple decided at the time that turning it into a phone was a much better prospect (My opinion is that the world was not ready for such a device at the time )but now i think we are ready This device and the ones that follow will revolutionize the way we do all sort of things, and also ones that don't exist . Detractors say that Apple pinch some of their ideas and technology from others ,if they mean by this taking over and acquiring other companies ,as far as i know thats what companies do,they all do it when there big enough "Capitalism " i guess. They say that imitation is the best form of flattery enough said IMO. But Mika raises a valid point,i my self would love to have one and using it to do this sort of stuff "Brilliant" more informal and more comfortable than a lap top. This incarnation may not be as good as a lap top, the next ones will be ,i think we are witnessing the demise of the lap top over time Great Post Mika ,posts that attract a lot of replies are generally relevant Cheers Oz
MIKA27 Posted June 21, 2010 Author Posted June 21, 2010 What a great post Oz!! How'd you get the FOH pics on the iPad screens, brilliant! From memory, that was the video review for the Grand Edmundo LE 2010, looked like a very nice cigar, one I am yet to try. Since having the iPad, my PC just hasn't been turned on!! My wife and I have really spent our cash well in grabbing one each as she takes hers to work and I often watch the world cup with iPad in hand flicking through articles etc or FOH forum and reading all the great and varied posts all members have to offer. For me, this already replaces any laptop mate. It truly is light, portable and practical. You make it what it is.
MIKA27 Posted June 22, 2010 Author Posted June 22, 2010 New iPhone operating system, iOS 4, download adds features If you have a recent iPhone, you'll want to download Apple's new iOS 4 software update today. If you have an older iPhone, the most highly touted features won't apply to you. Apple's iOS 4 software promises 100 new features for owners of the iPhone 3GS, released last June, including the ability to multitask, or run more than one app at once. It also lets you take control of the growing inventory of apps by organizing them into folders. The software is being released today in advance of Thursday's 7 a.m. launch of the new iPhone 4. Will iOS 4 work for you? Check your model: • iPhone. Besides last year's 3GS, the new software will work with the 3G iPhone, released in 2008, but not with all features. For instance, multitasking and Bluetooth keyboard support won't work with iPhone 3G. • iPod Touch. The new features are mostly operable only with the latest version of Apple's touch-screen iPod, the one released in late 2009. Multitasking doesn't work with the second-generation iPod Touch, released in 2008. • iPad. Apple's latest hit — the hard-to-get iPad touch-screen tablet computer — doesn't get the iOS 4 update until later this year. Gene Munster, an analyst at Piper Jaffray, says Apple's innovation with new software releases keeps products up to date and "is part of the science." "Apple is a smart company and wants to make a lot of money," he says. "This is how it forces people to buy the latest products." In a note to investors, Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty estimated that 57% of current iPhone owners have older models that won't work with all of the features in the new operating system, which will help fuel sales of the new phone. She expects more than 50% of current iPhone customers to upgrade to the new phone, up from just 18% for last year's iPhone. Apple says it has sold more than 50 million iPhones since its 2007 launch. Munster projects sales of 39 million this year, with total iPhone sales topping 100 million next year. Apple and exclusive carrier partner AT&T began taking orders for the new iPhone Tuesday, selling out on the first day as demand overwhelmed resources. Apple says about 600,000 have already been sold. Its website says new orders will ship by July 14. Apple hasn't said what time the software update will be available Monday. To access the new iOS, plug your iPhone or iPod into your computer and you will be prompted to download the new software via Apple's iTunes program. Munster says the biggest new feature is multitasking, the familiar computer function that lets you, for instance, listen to Pandora online radio and answer e-mail at the same time. "It's a feature that's really been missing," he says. Among the other new features: • Books. Apple's iBooks store, first seen on the iPad, comes to the iPhone. (Current iPhone users already have been able to download e-books from Amazon and others.) • E-mail. For those with multiple e-mail accounts, the new operating system lets you combine the accounts into one, for a unified inbox. A spell-checker has been added for e-mail. • Playlists. You can now create playlists directly on your phone or iPod Touch.
Smooth Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I have no need for one. MacBook Pro does everything a powerful PC can do (I constantly use 500mb+ graphic files) at just under the size of an IPad with no limitations. All credit to Apple, they do have a true skill for selling people something they don't need at all in great volumes.
Warren Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 I'm still impressed with mine. Today I bought a blue tooth remote keypad for mine, it's great.
