El Presidente Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Smithy and I did a video review of the Montecristo Grand Edmundo 2010 LE's yesterday. Will have the review posted tomorrow. For those that have had a chance to try the new Behike's or 2010 Limited Editions....what are your thoughts?
MIKA27 Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I'm thinking about buying a single today and giving one a try...... You know Prez: You could always bring over a box for next weeks meet and we could 'all' sample and do an en masse cigar video review in a drunken state....
Onsto Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Just got a box of the Grand Edmundo today. They look stunning but will be letting them rest a while so your review will have to serve as a stop-gap for me.
OZCUBAN Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 You know Prez: You could always bring over a box for next weeks meet and we could 'all' sample and do an en masse cigar video review in a drunken state.... My sentiments exactly both the LE's are up my ally as to speak the Behikes are probably a bit steep but will try and see what the fuss is about ,then maybe i will change my opinion Cheers Oz
typeapositive Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 The Grand Edmundos sure looks tasty: My "concern" is that they are not yet ready to smoke....
brian1 Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I tried the 56 on Saturday. Very smooth and creamy from the get go, typical Cohiba beany/vanilla nuances. Flavors stayed pretty much the same throughout..... Good but the same. The media tempo did not make a big difference in the flavor to me over other aged Cohibas I have had. A very nice cigar no doubt but it does not live up to the hype for me. Worth the money? definately not. Glad to have some more but wont be chasing more of them. The Grand Reservas are a much better classier cigar which they should be given price difference. Score another one for the HSA marketing machine. As a comparisson I had an 08 Upmann Mag 50 later that day and it was fantastic and more complex and enjoyable than the BHK and at a fraction of the price. I think the Mag 50's are one of the best QPR cuban cigars on the market FWIW.
mbrody Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I think the Mag 50's are one of the best QPR cuban cigars on the market FWIW. Brian, I am not a Mod, but... It, well how should I put this, is against forum rules to let others know how great Mag 50's are. You may discuss ANY other cigar and it's greatness, but please don't talk of that one! (Psst, Prez, find me another box soon!!!) Back to the topic, Have not smoked any, but would like the chance to sample first. Really interested in a Mix/Match for these Prez!
mbrody Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Doh! I see Grand Edmundo and the Trini in the Mix/Match right now!
PointSource Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I thought the BHK 52 was very, very good. I prefered it over the 54.
BobLobLaw Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 As of now, none for me. Too much reg production stuff catching my eye. Behikes do not really interest me at the current price.
bassman Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Can't afford the Cohibas & have lost interest in ELs. Didn't get any 09s & don't think I'll get this year's either. Too many have a common "EL flavor".
Laxman Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I love the Grand Reserves (Cohibas), when it comes to the behikes I am definitely looking forward to trying them but from what I am hearing that are not living up to the hype. As far as the EL's go I have a 10 pack of the partagas coming and not sure on the Edmundos. I only tried two Edmundo's and was not impressed. I have tried one Mag 50 and it was tasteless, but I keep hearing such good reviews I am going to have to revisit them!
SandmanTR Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Just received the BHK 52's yesterday and the Monte Edmundo's should be here tomorrow. The 52's are going to rest for a bit as will the Monte's. Really looking forward to the video review.
MPS Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I smoked a BHK54 last night and thought it was excellent. It was very rich and strong. A very unique Cohiba. Kinda had me spinning but I don't smoke many fresh cigars these days.
bob25 Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Is there a pricing on them? I didn't find them at the shop.
habanohal Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I was againts the buyiong of the Behikes. Now thinking twice about it, but for the $ that they demand,I wouldnt or wont accept andy "duds". When spending $30+ on a cigar, I feel it should be nothing short of excellance
riderpride Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I received a box of Partagas from a trusted Canadian source a week ago; the quality control is suspect at best. The leaflet states 'no more than two year', the sticks look like they were wrapped by a 3rd-grader, and the wooden sheet smells and looks like pine... Fortunately, some of the best sticks I've had in terms of flavour were ugly as sin. I'll update after I light one up.
Yoruba Hacker Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Posted this elsewhere a couple of weeks back: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My 56 arrived today and I'm finishing one as I type. Usually never ever do that, but on a rainy day with a ton of work, I said "why not?' The presentation is awesome. Kinda mini-GR with the laquer and velvet pouch. I took the plastic tape stuff off because I think there is a smell there that may transfer. Huge cigar. Almost uncomfortably so, but I managed. Familiar taste. It reminds me of a stronger version of the Book/Sublime Extra. Definitely will sit these and subsequent purchases, but they're certainly not bad right at this minute. Great draw. Flaky ash though, which a buddy of mine would say means the leaf is underfermented; another reason to sit them for a bit. But when you're smoking a MAR10, you can't complain about that I guess. Burn is a little uneven. Had to correct it twice with the lighter. Probably user error in not letting them sit for a while post-transit. Tastes good though. Definitely young, but has potential. It's not in CGR class, but a nice cigar. Very Cohiba. And very strong. The nicotine definitely hits you in the head, but it doesn't come off heavy on the palate at all. All comments are qualified by the fact that it's just this one cigar smoked breaking all of the usual smoking rules for Cuban cigars, but I suspect that when it grows up a little bit, it will be a really good one to have around. Given the price, the value question is up to the smoker, of course. And again, you can't really make a call until after you smoke a couple, because this particular one could be the best or the worst of the batch, but it has the makings. For me, I'm definitely getting more based on potential. Smoked another one about a week later. Liked it slightly less, but it was still fine. There was some messiness with the ash, and uneven burning this time as well, but again, not the cigar's fault.
reg Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 I don't see how anyone could think they are worth it. being at least double the price of just about any regular production cigar, would anyone rather have 1 of these over 2 of anything else?

If I was offering you the choice of one free Behike OR two free "anything else" (regular production cigars) - which would you choose?
armedak Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 I'd take two of the regular production... Overpriced kool-aid in my humble opinion.
Alberto_Magnus Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 I tried a Gran Edmundo at the Amicigar fest last week, and it is surely very promising despite the young age. In 1-2 years it will already be very very ready. The nature of the blend seemed leaning towards the mellow and aromatic side more then toward strength. Very interesting smoke.

Reg, the world of cigar lovers is a rich palate. There are people who only smoke Cohiba. I know many who love that flavour profile more than anything else. I have members who are clients who smoke Cohiba Gran Reserva's as their daily smoke. They don't tell anybody...but they do. I have a client who only smokes R&J Churchills and believes everything else is garbage. Another who thinks Jose Piedra Cazadores is the holy grail. Who is right and who is wrong? Why are we even asking the question? If you like it and you can afford it then good luck to you. I won't be telling anyone their JP Cazadores is inferior to anothers CGR because to that individual who adores JPC....they are the pinnacle of Cuban cigars.
