Silk ribbon on or off?

Do you keep the silk band on your cabinet selection cigars when aging or remove it so they are loose in the box? I've seen some cs boxes that have had the ribbon overtightened at the factory to the point that it's squeezing the cigars. In this instance I would think definately off. Otherwise, not so sure.

Never gave it any thought.??? I like the way it looks but it makes the cigars harder to get out for a smoke. I think next cab I will cut it to let the cigars relax and easier to get out. I bet it is a little late to undo some of the squeezing that it has caused. I agree with you that it does foul up the shape of the cigars.

I often get the squeezing effect in my cabinets as well...though it usually never affects more than 3 to 5 of the cigars in the bundle. I just leave them on.

I usually remove the ribbon. I had some Mag 50s that looked more like culebras; ugly as sin, but they still smoked well.

I always take the ribbons off and keep them in an unused small humidor. Actually I once had to tie all my ribbons together and used the rope to escape from a second story window. lol

I have done both. Left them on and taken them off. Usually I leave them on unless I pull them out and have trouble getting them back in the box.

I just leave them on, no sense molesting the cigars any more than needed to pull one out and smoke it.

I take the ribbons off. I think it allows them to breathe a little more. IMO.

I find that there's nothing more beautiful in the cigar packaging

then that yellow ribbon that ties the cigars together.

I can't bring myself to throw away any of the ribbons from my cabs,

so I keep them. Through the years I 've collected quit a few, some dating

from the 70's, 80's, 90's etc etc. It's been years that I've planned to set them

up in a way that I can make a big frame and put it up on my cigar room wall.

As for the cigars that have been squeezed by the ribbon, I don't dislike it ,plus,

It's had no effects on the smoking of the cigar. I keep the ribbon in the cab, uncut,

and do not remove it as long as there's still a cigar in the cab.

I just leave mine. Gives me an excuse to smoke the "damaged" cigars first. Plus have you ever tried to put one of those things back on? Freaking impossible! So I leave em on and once 1-2 cigars are smoked it is no longer tight anyway.

When a cab arrives I will always inspect and remove 1 or 2 and put them into one of the desktops for trying in the months ahead. The ribbon stays around the balance.
