MIKA27 Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Hi all. I'm looking at procuring these and whilst generally I would purchase one of each to try and make up my own decison, in this instance, it would be great to know your thoughts (If you have tried either one or both of these) on these two great cigars. Are they as good as the hype and are they worth the price, especially the Cohiba Sublime LE 2004 which is at best alot dearer than the Montecristo LE 2008. Thanks in advance. Michael.
strayvector Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Never been fond of the Monte flavor profile, so no contest for me. Amongst the various Sublime sized cigars out there, the Bolivar Libertador is also incredible. Good luck in finding the Cohiba Sublimes, they are definitely worth it.
LiLo Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Every monte sublime i have had has been total crap, I choose the 04 sublime in this case.
OZCUBAN Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Hi Mate have not tried the monte but the Cohiba is to die for hope this helps Cheers Oz
MIKA27 Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 Thus far, the Cohiba is kicking some serious Monte butt! Thanks all for your opinions.
Professor Twain Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 I have never smoked the Cohiba Sublime, but the Monte Sublime is one of the better ELs I have had. I smoked through a box with friends and thought that they were good enough that I have two extra boxes squirreled away. Guessing that you could buy four or five boxes of the Montes for the cost of one box of the Cohibas, so I would go for the Monte as a sounder choice. PLUS, how sure are you that the Cohibas are authentic?
OZCUBAN Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 PLUS, how sure are you that the Cohibas are authentic? Yes i was wondering the very same question they are hard to find plus pricy just a thought OZ
Bartolomeo Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Two different animals....Monte are about $20 each while the Cohiba are about $40-50/each........I love them both.........I have more boxes of the Montes than the Cohibas.........Two different flavor profiles.........If money was no option, I would take Cohiba Bart
ChanceSchmerr Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 I bought 3 boxes of the Monte, have 1 single of the Cohiba that I have yet to try. I love the Monte Sublime, probably one of the very few fat cigars that I enjoy. The price point only helps more. Would take the Monte definitely.
Ken Gargett Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 i have not smoked the cohibas for some time but they were spectacular when they came out, and gave every indication of being a cigar for the ages. i put mine away and have not gone near them and don't really plan to for a bit yet. they are one of the very best LE's yet released and i think in the top smokes of the last decade. have always enjoyed the monte's and do think them certainly the best LE from 08 but also one of the better ones from the entire series, though not the cohiba level. the other point to note is that there are a lot of claims as to the monte being inconsistent. i've never had that problem but others have, and i have never heard that but there are too many posts to ignore it. as said above, if money no object, grab the cohibas but provided you get good monte's, you will not be disappointed.
android Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Have a box of both and I vote for the Cohiba...got the cash and a reliable source get the Cohiba's.
thechenman Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Both are great cigars that will age well. That said...while the Cohiba is the better cigar, the Montecristo is the better value. It all just comes down to how much you are willing to spend. Personally, I don't think you could go wrong with either selection.
luisparis Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Actually smoked a Monte Sublime last night and it was pretty boring, but smoked a few more before with more enthousiasm. Never tried the Cohibas but if you can source and afford them, it shouldn't be a problem to add in a box of Monte, which are comparatively very affordable and available
MIKA27 Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 Thanks very much guys for your feed back. Both seem to sound quite nice and whilst I agree, the COHIBAS seem to be the most popular choice, a few of you have voted for the Monte's. I will attempt to source some COHIBAS (A few sticks) as well as the Montes. I have never really 'loved' Montes as they have a certain tang about them that just doesn't impress me however having said that, I do enjoy a Monte D LE 2008 as it is completely different from the rest. Would those having tried a D LE's say the Sublimes are similar?

Would those having tried a D LE's say the Sublimes are similar? Sometimes the popular choice isn't the best. But really both are excellent cigars- and have rarely had a harsh smoking experience with either. I would get some of both. And truly, the Sublimes are much richer than the D LE's in many aspects. But it just depends your personal preference. You should post a review contrasting/comparing the Sublimes & D LE's! An topic like that would surely intrigue many on the forum. Helpful too.
